Kalispell Regional Healthcare Laboratory Supervisor - Blood Bank and Pathology in Kalispell, Montana


The Laboratory Supervisor supervises various lab departments. Plans and prepares laboratory services to meet all regulatory and KRH standards.


  1. *Provides leadership and supervision of the technical and non-technical staff to provide for the production of high quality laboratory work. Assigns activities to staff which provides orderly workflow.

  2. *Performs general duties in absence of Laboratory Director. Maintains a high professional standard and a positive and professional atmosphere for patients and personnel.

  3. *Participates in the discovery, planning and implementation of Quality Management activities within department. Identifies areas for Performance Improvement with high patient impact and pre-analytic, and post-analytic processes.

  4. *Assigns priorities for departmental projects and monitors quality control procedures and results. Troubleshoots and resolves problems and collaborates with other departments to resolve issues.

  5. *Participates in staff performance evaluations. Works with Lab Director and/or Human Resources when personnel problems arise relating to staffing, morale, and/or performance. Provides fair, respectful and consistent direction to staff. Participates in hiring of new staff and maintains staffing levels. Prepares and provides staff schedule for departments and conducts department huddles/meetings.

  6. *Works with the Department Technical Coordinators to review and revise policies and procedures annually. Communicates information and significant changes to staff.

  7. *Maintains CAP/CLIA requirements for department and participates in on-going accreditation processes and inspections.

  8. *Provides an organized, safe and sanitary department for both the employees and the patients.

  9. *Coordinates and participates in formal and continuing education programs. Maintains competency assessments and documentation in the CAP Competency Program. Evaluates new techniques and procedures in term of space and personnel requirements, method comparison, and cost.

  10. *Participates in planning and budgeting for equipment and supplies. Ensures adequate supplies and inventory for lab departments.


  1. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related sciences (i.e. Biology, Microbiology, etc.) required.

  2. Completion of an accredited ASCP Medical Technology intern training program or equivalent (i.e. AMT, ABB).

  3. Montana State license as Clinical Lab Scientist required.

  4. Minimum of five (5) year’s working experience in a clinical lab setting.

  5. Previous supervisor or lead experience, preferred.

  6. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, required.
