Logan Health Lead Medical Assistant - Wellness & Pain Management in Kalispell, Montana

Job Description Summary:

This position leads, assists, and trains staff in clinical and scheduling functions. Promotes a positive, professional practice image by the efficient performance of clinical and administrative tasks designed to facilitate the smooth flow of patients and work throughout the practice. Assists the physicians/providers with the examination and treatment of patients.

Qualifications:

  • CMA / RMA certification as required by guidelines.

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in similar position within a medical setting (e.g., physician office, practice,) preferred.

  • Must possess knowledge of duties/scope of practice to support optimal patient care, knowledge of basic medical office procedures and medical terminology.

  • RQI Healthcare Provider CPR required. First Aid preferred.

  • Possess knowledge and understanding of equipment, supplies, and instruments used in a medical office.

  • Knowledge of simple routine clinical laboratory methods, universal blood and body fluid precautions; OSHA rules and regulations, established protocol for storing poisons, narcotics, acids, caustics, and flammable items; restrictions imposed by various managed care carriers, various forms inherent to profession; patient confidentiality regulations.

  • Minimum of one (1) year leadership experience preferred.

  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.

  • Commitment to working in a team environment and maintaining confidentiality as needed.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.

  • Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed.

Job Specific Duties:

  • Leads assigned clinical staff and effectively oversees daily clinical operations to ensure optimal patient flow, provider productivity, patient safety, and excellent care. Responsible for the oversight of the scheduling team to include, but not limited to; processing incoming referrals, scheduling provider appointments, procedures, and handling patient recalls. Coordinates scheduling for providers at local and outreach facilities.

  • Oversees clinical support staff in completing pre-procedure chart prep/review, schedules provider consultations as needed, and provides patient education for procedures by following protocols approved by the Medical Director.

  • Functions as an CMA / RMA as needed to include, but not limited to; rooms patients, takes vitals, documents patient histories, reconciles current medications, assists providers in examinations, facilitates provider orders for labs and diagnostic imaging, provides patient education, assists providers with medication prescribing, refills, and prior authorizations.

  • Provides assistance and troubleshooting to team members regarding patient care, practice workflow, technology, unusual/difficult situations, etc.

  • Implements verbal and written physician orders and treatments, accurately and efficiently as noted by chart reviews and observation. Consistently problem solves any issues affecting patient care.

  • Follows triage protocols determined by Medical Director and documents all telephone encounters. Documents all medication refills per practice policy and per triage protocols. Communicates with providers regarding telephone requests and documents accordingly. Responsible for developing and maintaining the clinical process manual

  • Schedules regular meetings with the clinical staff to promote better communication and guidelines within the practice. Completes daily rounding, documents and reports key metrics, and timely information to practice leadership.

  • Participates in short and long range planning for the practice. Supports annual budgeting process and works with leadership to ensure clinical resources, staffing, and expenses are utilized within budgetary constraints. Regularly assesses clinical supply inventories and expiration dates, ordering needed supplies in a timely manner.

  • Lead may be expected to perform one (1) or more of the following tasks regularly:

  • Creates work schedule and assigns employees to specific work tasks.

  • Trains or coordinates the training of employees.

  • Oversees and coordinates successful completion of employees’ competency assessments and required training.

  • Acts as point-of-contact/subject matter expert for employee questions about expectations and processes.

  • Assists in interviewing job candidates.

  • Leads or coordinates compliance and quality efforts.

  • Other duties as assigned at the discretion of management, excluding issuing corrective actions or administering performance evaluations.

Schedule:

Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.
