Kalispell Regional Healthcare RN - Nurse Residency Program in Kalispell, Montana

Overview

The Nurse Residency Program RN provides entry level professional nursing care to patients under the supervision of a designated preceptor. This care shall be rendered in a safe and effective manner that is consistent with Logan Health (LH) policies andprocedures.

Responsibilities

  1. Exhibits commitment to professionalism, civility, teamwork and customer service while undertaking all tasks and interactions with others.

  2. Maintains knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to the RN’s specific job duties, patient care and safety. Complies with and maintains regulatory compliance requirements as defined for the nursing care on the unit and according to LH standards.

  3. Operates and maintains equipment to departmental standards.

  4. Maintains nursing standards of care and executes appropriate physician/provider orders. While executing patient care, demonstrates knowledge of and maintains patient rights to diversity, privacy and confidentiality.

  5. Performs a comprehensive assessment of patient on admission and at regular intervals appropriate for the condition of the patient and/or as ordered by the physician/provider.

  6. Administers medications, treatments, physician/provider specified care and intravenous therapy to patients in compliance with LH and nursing policies and procedures.

  7. Completes reassessment of patient(s) to monitor status, identifies changes in vital signs, lab work or status, and implements interventions as ordered and/or defined. Evaluates patient responses to treatment and/or therapy in compliance with LH and nursing policies and procedures.

  8. Communicates appropriate and critical changes in patient condition, status, and findings to the appropriate physician/provider in a timely manner and/or as defined by policies and procedures and/or physician/provider orders.

  9. Documents all clinical findings and required regulatory mandates in the chart in compliance with LH and nursing policies and procedures and/or as defined by regulatory requirements.

  10. Completes and demonstrates competency/currency in unit specific required annual competencies and educational requirements as defined.

  11. Exhibits knowledge of staffing standards and a demonstrated commitment to cost containment with all resources.

  12. Possesses a knowledge and understanding of and adheres to all Nurse Residency Program requirements.

Qualifications

  1. Current Montana RN License or a multi state compact license with authorization to practice

  2. nursing within the state of Montana; required at the start of the program.

  3. BSN degree preferred.

  4. Must have graduated from an accredited school of nursing and have completed at least 250clinical hours during their education.

  5. Must have graduated from an accredited nursing school within one (1) year of start of theNurse Residency class, or nurses returning to the profession must have completed arefresher course prior to acceptance.

  6. Current BLS required.

  7. Must successfully complete all steps in the Nurse Residency Program application process.

  8. Additional potential requirements for assignment to specialty areas:

  9. Possess one (1) of the following is preferred:i. Prior working experience in the specialty area.ii. Externship with 90+ hours’ in the specialty area. The externship must beabove and beyond the standard clinical.

  10. Additional certification requirements vary by specialty and must be successfullyobtained by designated timeframe after hire. Examples of certification include, butmay not be limited to; ACLS, PALS, ENPC.
