Kalispell Regional Healthcare System Applications Specialist - Patient Business Services in Kalispell, Montana


Facilitates the implementation, support and integration of the various healthcare information software applications utilized at Kalispell Regional Healthcare (KRH)-coding, CDI, and revenue cycle departments. Acts as liaison between end users and vendor, monitoring tasks for expedient resolution


  1. *Exhibits high quality customer service skills to include; appropriate communication, consistent follow through on issues, identifies problems and the probable causes, develops and implements solutions and timely escalation of issues as needed. Supports and encourages maximization of software utilization. Provides software application support by troubleshooting issues.

  2. *Self-manages assuming full ownership of all outcomes start to finish. Independently and/or collaboratively brings issues to a complete resolution. Creates, runs and interprets reports. Facilitates, trends and implements solutions to problem accounts.

  3. *Supports end-user applications, including, but not limited to; troubleshooting, training, and collaborates with HIT team during implementation and downtime procedures. Monitors system functionality, reports problems, and provides end-user expertise for process improvement.

  4. *Exhibits fundamental HIT knowledge and skills to include; analytical skills, issue tracking, change control, and creation of design specifications or documentation. Exhibits knowledge of hospital revenue cycle workflow and incorporates into problem solving, support, and implementation.

  5. *Exhibits project management and implementation skills, including understanding of and participation in testing, end-user training, and cutover and go-live activities.

  6. *Possesses an understanding of the integration between modules and the interaction/impact changes cause within. Assists in the development of interfaces, including design, workflow, specification development, table-mapping, and testing. Executes testing in an integrated environment while incorporating quality management concepts.

  7. *Participates in and collaborates with HIT during implementation of new applications, new modules, and new functionality. This includes documenting workflow, developing test scripts and testing application configuration, developing training and go-live plans, and training end users. Documents processes as appropriate.

  8. *Oversees group projects toward successful completion of goals. Facilitates decision-making with users and administrative leadership.

  9. May assist and provide deep domain knowledge of HIT application systems, including technical, clinical, or financial knowledge and skills. May serve as a subject matter expert.

  10. Demonstrates exemplary written and verbal communication skills.

  11. Works closely with other departments, outreach facilities and other members of KRH to implement, problem solve, and improve services to end-users. Uses project management methodologies and tools to ensure successful implementations, and may serve as project leader for implementations of vendor software or process improvement initiatives.

  12. Pursues opportunities for self-development and stays current with industry trends as they relate to job responsibilities.

  1. Bachelor’s in Health Information Management, Computer Science, Health Information Technology or related field preferred. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

  2. Minimum of four (4) year’s progressive experience with hospital, healthcare operations, healthcare IT or equivalent work experience in a relevant field.

  3. Problem solving, analytical skills, and exemplary written and verbal communication skills required.

  4. Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed. Experience with SQL preferred. .

  5. Experience with hospital application systems, application support, implementation experience, and project management experience preferred. Meditech experience preferred.

  6. Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize while using appropriate critical decision-making skills.
