Kalispell Regional Healthcare Vice President of Operations, Kalispell Regional Medical Center (KRMC) in Kalispell, Montana

Overview

This position will be a member of the executive team and will have oversight for all operational functions for all areas included within the Service Line structure. Works in collaboration with hospital leadership to achieve or exceed hospital objectives, which provides a continual impact to the overall system goals. Provides leadership, engagement, and organizational direction and management to the Service Line Leaders. This role ensures strategies within areas of accountability are in alignment with the KRH Strategic Plan and goals.

Management Job Duties:

Strategic Execution

Drive organizational objectives by operationalizing changes and initiatives effectively and efficiently. Proactively anticipate both the needs of KRH and the impact operations has on the organization’s success. Collect and analyze data, prepare and present recommendations, and explain associated benefits and risks for improving operations.

Business Acumen

Demonstrate and further develop competencies in the areas of leadership, financial management, employee engagement, human resources knowledge, organizational dynamics and governance, organizational communication, strategic planning, change management, risk management, compliance, patient safety and quality improvement. Demonstrate professional ownership, self-development and a desire for life-long learning.

Emotional Intelligence

Serve as a role model for others by exhibiting the KRH core values: integrity, compassion, service, excellence and ownership. Lead and influence the team to provide outstanding customer service. Develop and foster relationships with other KRH leaders, departments and members of the team to support open communication, trust, transparency and collaboration.

Collaborates with Human Resources to develop, implement and support programs and processes that add value to KRH, its leadership and employees. Job Specific Duties:

  1. *Provides leadership that assures continuing efficient, fiscally-stable and medically-sound patient care.

  2. *Provides oversight of all aspects of fiscal operation related to service lines.

  3. *Develops strategies to meet service line objectives such as budgeting, building reserves, capital planning, new projects and initiatives.

  4. *Performs evaluation and assessment of overall service line operations.

  5. *Leads, develops, and holds individuals accountable to deliver positive results and meet individual and KRMC goals.

  6. *Assures an organizational work climate of collaboration, creativity, innovation, and accomplishment for all service line objectives.

  7. *Establishes and maintains an effective organizational/management structure for areas of accountability.

  8. *Recommends for approval the annual objectives, strategic plans, and programs for effective long-range development.

  9. *Enhances systems, processes, and business metrics required for tracking the key KRMC performance measures needed to meet internal and external financial/growth targets and goals.

  10. *Maintains and promotes a clear view of the objectives and mission of KRMC while advancing the mission and strength of KRMC as an integrated system of health services.

  11. *Leads in a manner to grow, develop, coach, and mentor direct reports. Develops leaders by defining roles/responsibilities, promoting continuous learning, education and training, and assessing performance. Provides clear expectations and standard of accountability to ensure consistency with KRH’s mission, vision and core values.

  12. *Serves as the administrative representative/spokesperson for the assigned service areas, representing the programs to all internal and external constituencies.

  13. *Performs as an integral part of operational analysis and decision making, including the development of annual budgets and policy positions. Monitors the quality, volume, and profitability of services, and initiates actions as necessary to maintain and improve these parameters.

  14. *Participates in professional organizations and related activities in order to keep abreast of practices in health, medical, and nursing care, and informs others of current trends.

  15. *Directs the design, implementation, and continuous evaluation of KRMC service line operations and processes in the context of continuous improvement.

  16. *Monitors the quality, volume, and profitability of services, and initiates actions as necessary to maintain and improve these parameters.

  17. *Ensures all areas of services and programs are in compliance with appropriate external regulatory standards and requirements.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Management, Business Administration, or other related healthcare field required. Master’s degree in related field preferred.

  2. Minimum of ten (10) years’ of progressively responsible healthcare leadership experience required.

  3. Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills required.

  4. Knowledge of and experience with benchmarking, productivity and data systems. Ability to understand financial systems, manage costs, enhance revenue and assists in developing strategic direction.

  5. Possess ability to bring innovative solutions and drive change at hospital level.

  6. Ability to work effectively in informal and formal teaming arrangement with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.

  7. Experience with capital planning, facilities maintenance, and inventory preferred.

  8. Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare delivery, operations, and financial management practices.
