The City of Laurel is accepting applications for an Accounts Payable Clerk to perform work of some complexity, involving substantial repetitive processes requiring interpretive judgment within established standards and procedures regarding the City's accounts payable.Typical duties may include:- Prepare, post and print bi-monthly payables, scan payables.- Maintain Vendor W9 forms.- Conduct inventory of City's fixed assets.- Assist front office area, Water Clerk, Deputy Clerk-Treasurer, as needed.- Respond to counter and telephone inquiries.- Assist with annual audit.- Perform routine office duties (filing, sorting, and alphabetizing, ordering supplies).- Route incoming and outgoing mail.- Index, organize and file claims, receipts, invoices and other accounts payable documents.- Provide information to the public, answer telephone calls, and wait on customers.- Maintain all business Licenses, maintain business license program, and issue and send delinquent and renewal notices.- Sell cemetery lots, prepare deeds, and maintain cemetery records.Qualifications:- Computer knowledge and skills are required to perform bookkeeping tasks.- Accounting knowledge essential for account reconciliation, fund accounting, preparation of deposits and accounts payable.- Ability to communicate with the public both orally and in writing.- Must be able to change tasks rapidly and respond to a variety of questions.- A minimum of four (4) years of accounting experience or its equivalent.- Graduation from high school or its equivalent.Hours: Full time. 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.Wage: Starting wage is $18.50 per hour.
