About Caterpillar Marine

You will be joining a high-performing team that’s leading services growth for Caterpillar Marine, with Cat dealers. When our customers win, we win. Complete reman engines and components and kitted products reduce customer total cost of operation and make it easy to do business with Caterpillar and Cat dealers. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work directly with Cat dealers, customers, and the Caterpillar Marine team to create the best possible customer experience. The Caterpillar Oil, Gas, and Marine Division currently has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Manager Production in Laurel, Montana. The Senior Manager Production manages the day-to-day operations and maintenance of a natural gas burning power plant.

Job Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing staffing, development, and performance management programs for operations staff; managing, motivating, and developing management team.

  • Overseeing operations activities, ensuring that safety, and schedules and performance requirements are met, and system resources are used effectively.

  • Monitoring overall operations performance and implementing production safety, cost, and quality control mechanisms.

  • Ensures the compliance of all regulatory guidelines and forges a safe and sound operating environment.

Skills Sets:

  • Quality Management: Extensive Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization.

  • Analytical Thinking: Working Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

  • Planning and Organizing: Working Knowledge of the process of planning and arranging tasks and resources; ability to plan and organize both time and resources to get things completed while structuring and maintaining work in a systematic and highly methodical way.

  • Performance Management: Working Knowledge of successful performance management techniques; ability to apply organization's performance management system, practices, and tools to developing and improving individual, team, and organizational performance.

  • Identifies opportunities to enhance performance, e.g., practice assignments, training, shadowing.

  • Ensures performance goals, checkpoints, and feedback focus on behaviors.

  • Provides documented input to formal performance review conducted by manager.

  • Observes individual performance and provides fair and objective feedback.

  • Uses formal and informal rewards and recognition programs for employees.

  • Facility Operations: Extensive Knowledge of facility operations; ability to perform day-to-day operations of a manufacturing plant or facility for products.

  • Monitors organizational adherence to policies and procedures.

  • Facilitates communications across departments to ensure a smooth workflow in the plant or facility.

  • Evaluates the risks and safety hazards present in facility operations.

  • Recommends key industry benchmarks of facility operations and relates to own organization.

  • Supervises daily operations to ensure production targets and forecasts are achieved.

  • Employs tools and techniques for anticipating demand and assuring capacity.

  • Operational Safety: Extensive Knowledge of operational safety; ability to identify work-related hazards and perform necessary activities to meet regulatory requirements for the safety and protection of workers, environment, and site.

  • Consults on the use of new tools and techniques for safety protection.

  • Performs safety inspections to assure compliance with OSHA requirements.

  • Designs and implements emergency response processes and procedures.

  • Promotes workplace safety among supervisors and workers; communicates safety rules and regulations.

  • Assesses and reports unusual or new safety hazards or violations; initiates corrective action.

  • Ensures that all employees and contractors comply with relevant safety policies and regulations.

  • Operational Standards, Procedures and Policies: Working Knowledge of organizational standards, procedures, and policies in operational activities; ability to plan, guide, and monitor operational processes for compliance.

  • Contributes to the development and implementation of specific operational procedures.

  • Investigates the need to refer potential exceptions upward for review and approval.

  • Explains the rationale for procedures and standards in own area of responsibility.

  • Participates in the implementation of operational standards and procedures to one's own function.

  • Provides feedback for improvement of procedures.

  • Maintenance Scheduling and Control: Basic Knowledge of procedures and tools for scheduling and controlling maintenance; ability to utilize knowledge of daily maintenance processes to assure quality deliverables.

  • Identifies types of problems that can affect maintenance schedules.

  • Lists major activities performed by maintenance control staff.

  • Locates information regarding fundamental practices and policies.
