FERGUS COUNTY ROAD & BRIDGE DEPT. Road, Bridge & Gravel Crew Member in LEWISTOWN, Montana

Full time, permanent, year-round position

WAGE: $19.50/hr

DUTIES:

Operates trucks and equipment of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various materials, equipment and supplies for the Fergus County Roads and Bridge Department operations according to establishing safety procedures and applicable rules and laws. This includes loading vehicles and delivering materials to job sites, removing debris, and operating related construction equipment

Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order

Maintain logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations

Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment, such as gas, oil, water, tires, lights, or brakes, to ensure that vehicles are in proper working condition

Patch holes on block top roads with cold mix (asphalt)

Plows snow and sands where necessary during the winter months

Mows grass along county roads, cleans out cattle guards and ditches as, digs post holes and puts up fences ,and installs or removes culverts as necessary

Installs and/or repairs bridge when necessary, continually upgrading sections of road to improve safety

Re-builds road and or bridges where washouts have occurred

Operates all equipment in a safe and prudent manner

Controls traffic at work sites by flagging or posting signs to guide traffic through work areas in a safe manner

Maintains professionalism by exercising tact, diplomacy and good judgement when dealing with the general public or other county staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Class A CDL license (employer will help obtain)

High School diploma or equivalent

Routinely lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally required to lift and or move up to 100 pounds

Knowledge of basic mechanical operations of construction equipment

Knowledge of all traffic laws and standard processes for the safe operation of a vehicle within a public roadway or road construction project Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

Ability to perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of mechanical failures on all types of equipment

Able to operate the following equipment: Dump Truck, Pickup Truck, Utility Truck, Water Truck, Loader, Blade Dozer, Belly Dump, Back Hoe, Track Hoe, Scrapers, Roller, Distributor Truck, Snow Plow, Snow Blower, Sickle & Rotary Mower, Plasma Cutter, Air Arc, Tractor/Trailer, Welders (arc, acetylene, feed for aluminum and steel), and all small hand & power tools
