This position is responsible for purchasing food, preparation of food and clean-up. The cook is responsible for complying with sanitation guidelines for food service and overseeing the kitchen staff and volunteers in the Libby Center. Essential job responsibilities include food preparation, safety sanitation, child involvement/program administration, financial/record keeping. Essential knowledge skills and abilities include basic counting skills, knowledge of state and federal regulations, ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions, ability to interpret a variety of instructions, knowledge of general office procedures and equipment, ability to work with minimal supervision, ability to frequently lift up to 25 pounds, specific sensory abilities required include sense of smell and color vision, Montana Class D drivers license and appropriate insurance. This position supervises cook trainees and kitchen volunteers. Graduation from high school or GED required. Six month experience in large quantity cooking or advancement through career ladder in the program. Must hold current First Aid or be able to obtain within six weeks. Must pass pre-employment physical exam, a negative TB skin test, and have satisfactory results from criminal background check Submit Kootenai Valley Head Start application (available at Plummer Center 247 Indian Head Road, Libby), Resume and two (2) letters of recommendation to Kootenai Valley Head Start at Plummer Center.
