Cabinet Peaks Medical Center Emergency Room Charge RN, Full Time in Libby, Montana

Cabinet Peaks Medical Center is looking to have an ER Charge RN to join our Emergency Department full time!

The Charge Nurse provides professional nursing care within the Emergency Department and determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs of patients, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. The Charge Nurse provides care that reflects initiative, flexibility and responsibility with expert supervision. The Charge Nurse will be required to follow any other job related instructions and to perform any other job related duties requested by their supervisors.

Major Job Duties & Responsibilities

Provision of care, treatment, and services: Assists staff in completing their tasks, acts as a clinical resource, delegates work load fairly and appropriately, conducts an initial unit wide patient assessment, exhibits knowledge of unit and work plan, provide direct patient care as needed, balancing patient care with charge nurse duties. Coordinates staff, assesses clinical and operational information, assigns breaks and lunches, reports unusual occurrences, medication errors, on the job incidences, patient complaints and illness to nurse manager. Helps with the maintenance and fiscal responsibility of supplies and equipment.

Accepts objective suggestions for improved performance, demonstrates self motivation, handles conflicts and concerns, participates in meetings and committees, reports and documents any unusual occurrences that may affect patient and staff well being, willing to effectively function as part of the team to facilitate the goals and objectives of the Emergency Room.

Leadership: Ensures effective use of facilities, reports maintenance issues timely, participates in performance improvement for the department, ensures effective use of time, organized. Knowledgeable of unit functions and nursing care, is a role model, represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.

Management of Environment of Care: Serves as a role model and advocates for patients safety, cleans equipment and instruments according to manufacturers recommendations, maintains a clean, safe and comfortable environment for the patient and staff.

Management of Human Resources: Be accessible and identify self as the Charge Nurse. Communicate effectively in a positive manner, communicate concerns to the Emergency Nurse Manager, use diplomacy to resolve conflict, provide leadership during your shift to motivate staff. Adheres to dress code

Management of Information: Attends and is active in at least 80% of staff meetings annually, maintains security and confidentiality of data and information

Interpersonal Skills: Communicates appropriately with colleagues, peers, supervisors and medical providers. Communicates clearly, honest, and with mutual respect. Follow through on problems that may affect performance, maintains professional manner

Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities

Evaluates staff nurses and their expertise in triaging all patients safely, rapidly and accurately.

Evaluates interventions and actions by the health care team when responding to changes in patient’s condition and response to treatment.

Has a leadership role in assessing and organizing the care and flow of the patients and coordinates care planning with other disciplines.

Communicates with the Nurse Manager and Emergency Department physicians, evaluating the patient’s status and clinical condition, symptomatology and results of diagnostic studies.

Demonstrate effective decision making and problem solving skills involving both critical and operational issues on the unit.

Has the responsibility to understand and operate in the organizational environment on the unit as well as in the larger institution.

Must interact effectively with other personnel to accomplish the requirements of patient care as well as administrative activities.

Education Requirements

Associates Degree from an accredited school of nursing.

Current Montana state or compact state nurse licensure.

Current certifications in BCLS, ACLS, PALS and NRP.

TNCC certification within twelve (12) months of employment required.

ENPC within twelve (12) months of employment required.

Experience

A minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department or related experience preferred, not required.

Schedule

Varies depending on the needs of the department including weekends, nights and/or holidays.
