Schedule: Full-Time

Reports To: Mechanical Design Engineering Manager - Columbia Falls

The Manufacturing Engineer’s (Manf.E) work is critical in supporting the Engineering process, being responsible for problem-solving any design, process, and tooling issues that arise in the production and assembly stages of a project. In-depth product knowledge, a high degree of problem-solving skills, and a willingness to champion problems are necessary in this role. At times, the Manf.E may be tasked with collaborating on other new projects within the Engineering scope of work while operating outside of their area of expertise. All stages within the Manf.E’s solutions must meet or exceed Nomad Global Communication Solutions’ standards of excellence.

Essential Functions/Responsibility:

  • Act as the Engineering department liaison during implementation/changeover of ERP system, including forecasting and balancing the needs of several departments and communicating effectively to those department representatives. The Manf.E may also be responsible for:

  • Reviewing existing designs/components/assemblies for manufacturability.

  • Creating and populating an appropriate metadata schema on an existing library of 2D/3D models.

  • Conduct manufacturing reviews on internal designs including tolerance/tooling studies and Jig design.

  • Analyze proposed Change Orders and communicate their assessment of the proposed Change Orders regarding:

  • Effect upon applicable project/product delivery timeline and budget.

  • Estimated engineering time for completion of the change.

  • Propagation of any downstream revisions to documentation and drawings in a timely manner.

  • Troubleshoot issues on current projects and deliver solutions to the Production teams in a timely manner that satisfy technical requirements of the build and align with the direction of the Engineering department towards standardization.

  • Act as the communication channel between Production and Engineering for

  • Mechanical assembly design issues

  • Electrical system design issues

  • Production/manufacturing design issues

  • Tooling and jig design

  • Identify areas for efficiency gains on the manufacturing floor and communicate solutions to responsible parties and/or champion implementation of the solutions. Create custom tooling/jigs/procedures for said implementation that align with the company standards and policies.

  • At times, Assist Sales and Marketing by creating 3D models and 2D drawings that can be used in proposals to customers.

  • Track and record work hours for each specific project daily.

  • On a limited basis, be willing to travel as needed by Management.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Management.

    Basic Knowledge Desired:

  • the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.

  • raw material, production processes (welding, machining, grinding/cutting), quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

  • of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics, and mechanical, electrical, electromagnetic, atomic and sub-atomic structures and processes.

  • Have previous knowledge gained from experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD), SolidWorks preferred.

  • Be proficient in using standard business and engineering software including SolidWorks, ERP, Microsoft Office Suite, and Project Management Software.

    Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and arms to finger, handle, feel, reach, or operate objects, tools, or controls.

  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and is occasionally required to sit.

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Anything heavier than 50 pounds will require two people to lift / carry.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to distinguish individual colors.

    Working Environment:

  • The environment is typically an indoor office environment with long periods of computer-related work, constant interruptions, and high levels of stress at times.

  • The work environment is a partially environmentally controlled indoor environment. Depending upon the time of year, temperatures can fluctuate between 60F and 100F but is typically around 70F.

  • The employee may be subjected to noise levels, ranging from low volume to loud and will be required to wear provided safety hearing devices from time to time, which will be provided.

  • The employee will be exposed to a variety of household/commercial chemicals that will require the employee to follow company rules/regulations outlined by that SDS.

  • All Team Members must wear provided OSHA approved eye protection at all times in manufacturing areas. The employee will be required to wear provided safety eyewear throughout the performance of their duties. Closed toed shoes are required when on the Production

  • The employee is always expected to maintain a professional image and demeanor on company property or while representing the company off-site.

    Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program.

  • Minimum 2 years of verifiable work history as a Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineer in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience with SolidWorks modeling, drawings, and file management.

  • Experience with ERP software in a manufacturing environment (BOM/ECN/ECO).

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed may be substituted for the above requirements.
