Kalispell Regional Healthcare Nurse Practitioner in Libby, Montana


Must be a NP. This will be a One week (where you would work 7am - 6pm and be on call) per month at Cabinet Peaks in Libby, MT and possiable (not gaurenteed) additional shifts in Kalispell providing acute health care and performs selective medical services. The first 3 months will be orientation which will be located in Kalispell, MT.

You would come to the ED at 0730 to pick up new admits and are available for further new admissions until 6pm. After 6pm you are on-call only for the patients admitted to your service, the ED MD places admit orders and answers questions on patients admitted after 6pm until you pick them up at 0730. There are no "required" times to be present at the hospital other than picking up new patients at 0730. However, it works best for work-flow to have rounding and DC/HPs done during the morning. You are on-call for patients admitted to your service 24H/7D, and are expected to be available to respond at the hospital to critical patient status changes within 20 minutes. You are also on-call 6pm to 0730 for ICU admissions.


  1. *Coordination and management of patient care in the acute hospital in collaboration with the Hospitalist physicians. Diagnoses and treats acute and chronic medical problems.

  2. *Performs complete medical histories, physical exams, interpreting findings, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests and imaging studies, diagnosing medical conditions, and formulating and prescribing treatment plans.

  3. *Establishes differential diagnoses from the clinical subjective and objective data; develops appropriate treatment plans including prescribing medications, patient education, and referral to other medical/health care specialists.

  4. *Provides documentation that follows hospital standards and supports coding/charges. Completes dictation and documentation in the EMR or standard format in an accurate and timely manner. Handwriting is neat and legible.

  5. *Educates patients and/or families regarding diagnosis and treatment.

  6. *Provides a comprehensive discharge summary, communicates with the patients primary care providers and case management. If appropriate, recommends community resources to meet the patient and family needs.

  7. *Consistently provides and maintains effective communication in all areas of the Hospital, complies with all State and Federal regulations, hospital policies and procedures. Displays flexibility in role and job situations to ensure the best patient care.

  8. *Attends and implements new knowledge gained from conferences, workshops, professional literature or “hands on training” and applies it to clinical practice. Maintains continuing education requirements.

  9. *Develops and coordinates clinical protocols, policies, and procedures specific to acute diagnoses.

  10. *Maintains knowledge of computer software programs, EMR, and internet access for medical information.

  11. *Retains knowledge of medical equipment, organizational policies, regulations, and procedures. Acquires knowledge of common safety and quality measures specific to the facility.


  1. Graduate from an accredited Masters program, and have obtained national certification according to Nurse Practitioner (NP) national standards.

  2. Must be licensed in the State of Montana. Minimum of two (2) year’s experience preferred.

  3. Current BLS and ACLS certifications required.

  4. Must have professional medical knowledge and skill to evaluate, diagnose and provide comprehensive patient treatment in an acute setting.

  5. Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and families, medical providers, hospital leadership and support staff.

  6. Must have the ability to maintain quality control standards, conform to all State and Federal regulations, OHSA and medical staff guidelines and to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.

  7. Must possess the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, required.
