Human Service Information and Referral SpecialistMadison County, MontanaEmployment/FSLA Status: Part-time/Non-exemptPosition SummaryThrough a respectful, constructive and energetic style, guided by the objectives of the organization, the Human Service Information and Referral Specialist works with low-income people in Madison County to facilitate linkages to needed services such as housing, food and heat as well as mental health, chemical dependency, domestic violence and medical services. The position maintains information, such as brochures and applications that will help people navigate the service delivery system. The Human Service Information and Referral Specialist must be detail oriented, able to work independently and be familiar with resources and services available in and around Madison County. The position must maintain confidentiality in all agency matters. Duties & Responsibilities•Responsible for being available by phone as a service access point for people in need.•Responsible for assessing needs of people for basic services such a housing, heat, food, healthcare and other critical services•Refers people to services by providing contact information and support in accessing critical services•Responsible for entering tracking data into required database system.•Exemplifies behaviors that are consistent with the core values and mission of Action Inc. and that encourage trust with the public.•Performs other related duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities•Knowledge and understanding of the barriers faced by low-income people.•Knowledge of community programs and services and the associated referral processes.•Basic knowledge of computers. •Ability to communicate effectively with disadvantaged people about sensitive personal issues. •Ability to articulate the needs of participants to service providers and convey the role of advocacy in interactions with community members and other providers. •Ability to work with difficult individuals and maintain professional interactions and boundaries.•Ability to assess the problems of clients and make appropriate referrals. •Ability to follow instructions and complete required forms and paperwork. •Ability to utilize database systems for tracking participant outcomes.Desired Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Human Service field and two years related experience with disabled or otherwise disadvantaged population. Other combinations of education and experience which can provide this knowledge or these skills and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.
