Manhattan Police Department Patrol Officer in Manhattan, Montana

The Manhattan Police Department is currently accepting applications for (2) two full-time Police Officers.
Manhattan is a beautiful, small community of approximately 2,100 people. It sits nineteen miles west of Bozeman, Montana, which is one of the fastest-growing areas in the country and home to Montana State University. Manhattan is close enough to Bozeman to enjoy all its amenities, but far enough to escape to a much more quiet, small-town lifestyle. The surrounding area is also known for its fly fishing, hunting, skiing, hiking, and other outdoor recreational opportunities. The Big Sky Mountain resort and Bridger Mountain resort are two world-class ski areas, frequented by Manhattan residents. The Bozeman International Airport makes travel to and from the area easily accessible all year round. Yellowstone National Park is only a beautiful, 1 ½ hour drive to the south. In the fall, an elk herd of 200 plus comes to the edge of town, where it hangs out until hunting season is over. In the summer, you can look forward to the world-famous Potato Festival (look it up!) We are also home to one of the best steak houses in Montana.
When at full staff, we have 5 sworn officers; the Chief of Police, (1) one Sergeant, (1) one Detective/Patrol Officer, (2) two Patrol Officers, and a part-time Administrative Assistant. We work 12-hour shifts every other week, enjoying 4 days off. There is typically one officer on shift at a time. We work closely with surrounding agencies, including the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, Montana Highway Patrol, and the Belgrade Police Department, so while working “by yourself” we are never truly alone.

Some of the many benefits of working for the Manhattan Police Department include: • Being an active part of the community • Getting to know the people you work for • Experiencing "Community Policing" firsthand • Using your choice of sidearm (from a reputable manufacturer) • Having four days off, every other week • Access to a private gun range • First class training opportunities • Body cameras utilized • Up to date equipment • Recently built facility (2017) • Proactive staff • Your choice of body armor, concealed or external carrier • Department provides uniforms, to include all issued gear - uniform allowance every July • Your preference of duty belt and accessories, including leather, nylon, or synthetic leather • Beards are permitted. • Appropriate tattoos are permitted. • Lateral transfers - bring your years with you (up to 7 will be recognized on our pay scale) • Lateral transfers - an opportunity for expedited Field Training • Lateral transfers - Detective opportunity

We work closely with the Town Council, which sets the budget for the police department. They have worked hard to ensure we have competitive wages in comparison to other agencies, especially with the rapid growth the area is experiencing. The starting wage (if you’re not bringing years with you) will be approximately $25.76 an hour. If you’re new to law enforcement, you will go through a full Field Training Program and attend the Montana Law Enforcement Academy, which the Manhattan Police Department pays for. If you’re a lateral transfer, bring your years (up to 7) and the starting wage will depend on experience (up to $28.79 per hour.) If you’re a lateral transfer and being a detective is something you’re interested in, you will have the opportunity to fill the role immediately, which also comes with a pay increase (up to $30.10 per hour.)

There is also an added benefit Package that contributes to the overall wage which includes: Health Insurance, Vision/Dental, Life Insurance, Health Savings Account, Medical Flex account, Aflac, Aflac Disability, and an additional 457 retirement contribution plan.
We also offer a full Retirement Plan, Vacation, Holiday, and Sick pay. If this is sounding like something you’d be interested in, please apply, we’d love to meet you.
