Position General Responsibilities:

The Assistant Controller is responsible for assisting in the oversight of accounting transactions and financial reporting for the Bank and its affiliate companies, under the general supervision of the Chief Accounting Officer. This is achieved by helping to ensure accounting practices are being performed in accordance with the bank’s policies and procedures, regulatory accounting rules, state/federal tax requirements, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The Assistant Controller will also assist in the general strategic direction of the accounting function, including internal controls and financial reporting systems.

A key goal of this position is to prepare for and eventually assume the role of Controller as part of the company’s succession planning process.

Employees Supervised:

Direct oversight, training, and mentoring of various processes and certain accounting department staff is expected.

Education, Experience and Certification Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

a. Requires a BS/BA in finance/accounting or in a similar field and five (5) years of qualifying strategic financial accounting experience or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

b. Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple complex tasks and maintain a high level of accuracy in completing accounting related duties.

c. Demonstrated ability to learn and use IT-based office/accounting systems and adapt to change.

Preferred Qualifications

a. Bank/financial institution specific accounting experience is preferred.

b. Past supervisory experience is beneficial.

c. CPA or CMA designation is beneficial.

Position Specific Responsibilities, Duties and Competencies:

Accounting Systems / General Ledger

a. Assist in the preparation, posting, and review of various journal entries for the bank and its affiliates.

b. Assist in the completion and review of various general ledger account reconcilements.

c. Assist in the completion and management of various monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes.

d. Assist in the design and maintenance of effective internal controls and appropriate accounting policies and procedures.

e. Assist in the completion of complex accounting activities including consolidations, eliminations, and inter-company activities.

f. Assist in the design, completion, and oversight of accounting projects as assigned.

Financial Reporting

a. Assist in the preparation of various managerial and board-level internal financial reports of the bank and its affiliates.

b. Assist in the preparation of external financial reports of the bank and its affiliates to ensure compliance with various reporting requirements, including quarterly regulatory reports and annual audited financial statements.

Other Accounting Responsibilities

a. Assist in the oversight of various payroll-related functions.

b. Assist in the evaluation and implementation of new accounting standards and pronouncements.

c. Assist in the completion and submission of financial information for various third parties, including tax preparers, auditors, consultants, and regulatory agencies.

d. Assist in the supervision, motivation, training, and team building of accounting department staff as part of a department leadership role.

e. Assist senior management requests to serve in various back-up or project leadership roles.

Sales/Public Relations

a. Promote the improvement of Stockman Bank through quality customer service, promotion of products, professionalism in conduct, and a diligent work ethic.

b. Handle transactions quickly and professionally.

c. Effectively handle customer questions and problems.

Federal Regulation

Maintain a working knowledge of the Bank's written policies and procedures that apply to and concern this position’s area of responsibility, including general regulations such as the Bank Secrecy Act, Regulation CC, Regulation E, Bank Security, and various other Federal and State regulations as they apply.
