MILES CITY FIRE RESCUE Probationary Firefighter/EMT in MILES CITY, Montana

The employer is hiring for a full-time permanent position. The monthly salary is $3,574.59. Will work rotating shifts providing 24 hour coverage. The fire fighter is responsible for the protection of life and property through the performance of technical skills associated with fire fighting, EMS, hazardous materials, rescue and extrication, fire prevention and public education. Duties also include routine maintenance of fire department equipment, apparatus and property. Many of these duties may at times need to be performed in a rapid and efficient manner, under emergency conditions, and in a harsh environment or under conditions involving considerable hazard. Detailed Duties and Responsibilities: The fire fighter will, in a safe manner: -Respond to a variety of fire alarms and perform suppression related tactical assignments such as laying and connecting hose, holding nozzles and directing water streams, forcible entry, raising and climbing ladders, the use and operation of a variety of tools and equipment associated with those tactics. -Perform other suppression related tactics such as rescue, ventilation, salvage and overhaul, and use related tools equipment, and appliances. -As assigned, drive and operate fire, rescue, and other apparatus. -Drive and operate apparatus, use tools and equipment associated with, wildland fires, and perform tactics associated with containment and control of such fires. -Assure response readiness as per SOP of fire department apparatus, tools, appliances, and other equipment through daily, weekly, monthly, and post incident inspections, and by performing routine maintenance, testing, and repair. -As assigned, receive and transmit fire alarms or other emergency calls and dispatch the appropriate resources by radio or phone. -Perform fire prevention duties such as building inspections of industrial, commercial and residential buildings. Also may be required to participate in or present public education and community awareness programs. -Respond to other non-fire emergencies such as rescue and extrication, hazardous materials incidents, natural or manmade disasters, and perform related tactical assignments. -Participate in drills, classes, continuing and advanced training sessions in order to maintain and further the skills and knowledge needed for the duties listed. -Perform general maintenance, repair, and upkeep of fire department facilities and grounds. -Provide accurate reports and record keeping as required by supervisors. -Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: -Thorough knowledge of, and the skill to, operate all fire department apparatus and equipment in a safe and efficient manner. -Thorough knowledge of modern principles, practices, and procedures for fire suppression, rescue and extrication, hazardous materials incident mitigation, wildland fire containment and control. -Working knowledge of local geography including location of hydrants, city streets, county roads, and target hazards. -Knowledge of current fire and safety hazards and related prevention and mitigation methods. -Knowledge of department rules and regulations, policies, SOP=s, and pertinent Federal, State, and Local, laws, codes, and ordinances relative to the activities of the Fire Department. -Knowledge in maintenance and upkeep requirements of fire department equipment and apparatus. -Agility, strength, and stamina to do prolonged and arduous work under adverse and extreme conditions requiring, the frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds or more and occasionally lifting up to 150 pounds or more. -Ability to react quickly and effectively, and to remain calm under the stress and strain encountered in emergent and stressful situations. -Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and to communicate effectively orally and in writing. -Must be able to establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with fell w employees, other agencies, and the general public. -Ability to recognize changing situations and to respond quickly and appropriately, exercising good judgement, flexibility, and safety consciousness. Working Conditions: -Work is often performed under stressful, emergent situations and in extreme and hostile environments. -Must be willing to be available for a significant amount of call backs and other overtime situations during off duty time. -Work is often very strenuous and physically demanding for extended periods of time requiring one to be in good physical and mental condition. -Employees work a 24 hour shift followed by 72 hours off but are subject to a significant amount of call backs during their off duty time.
