Job Title:After-School Counselor II
Status: part time
Hours: M-F 2:30-6, earlier on Thursday
Wage: $11.00-12.50/hr dep. on experience
Probation: Subject to a 12 month introductory (probationary) period
UM Students: The Missoula Y is an approved work-study employer for students with work-study aid
Position Summary:The Missoula Family Y is hiring after school counselors! If you are friendly, creative and reliable, and have experience working with childeren this could be a great fit for you. The hours are Monday-Friday, 2:30-6pm, earlier on Thursday, at least three (3) shifts per week. The After School Counselor II is responsible for the well being, health and safety of all program participants under their care, as well as overseeing the smooth operation of daily program activities. This includes leading activities and games, creating a positive culture, conflict resolution and more. After School Counselor II’s must be comfortable working with school age children, other staff and communicating clearly with partipant parents/guardians and supervisors. After School Counselor II’s are viewed as healthy role models at the Y and in the community and should always model the Y core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. After School Counselor II’s must be able to thrive in an environment with the unique challenges of a non-profit, community service organization and have the flexibility to work in a constantly changing environment. Works with general supervision.

Requirements
Education
Required – High school diploma or equivalent, or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred – Lead Teacher under Montana State Childcare Licensing Standards: Early education, child development or psychology degree OR a degree with at least 12 semester credits in early education, child development, or psychology, or experience working in a licensed childcare facility.
Experience
Required - Certification in CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention Training within 60 days of employment, available at the YMCA
Required - Experience with working with children
Required – Evidence of current tetanus shot and current MMR
Satisfactory Background Check required to be eligible to work with children
Prefered- Valid MT driver's license with insurable drivers record – required to drive Y vehicles.
