You must be 18 y/o and join the Laborers Union. As an Apprentice Top-Hand Laborer you will learn and be taught on the Job. Set proper grades and elevations i.e. flowline, grade stick, string lineCheck slopes for conformance to grading elevations, using levels or lasersConnect bell and spigot, sewer and water pipelinesCover pipes with aggregate and native material and compactHand dig bell holes to verify existing utility locationsGrade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand toolsInstall and repair water, storm-water and sewer structures and pipe systems within trench shoring shieldsLay out pipe routes, following written instructions or blueprints and coordinating layouts with supervisorsAssure all safety policies and procedures are followed to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes and behaviorsAbility to take direction from the Foreman and provide support to peersWork safely while adhering to OSHA regulationsMaintain dependability and responsibility to be at work on time.
