At BMC, the Cabinet Designer provides excellent customer service in their tasks. This includes performing customer meetings, gathering design, budget, and qualification information from salespeople or, typically, directly from customers with an emphasis on good/better cabinetry for single family production or multi-family projects. They are responsible for preparing all designs, proofs and adjust design to fit field dimensions, 3-D renderings, schematic diagrams, prices, quotes, and in some cases place orders. Moreover, they are accountable for the final proofing of any changes required prior to contract and order. (May act as lead person to trainees.) This position requires enrollment in the NKBA AKBD training program for cabinet designers and certification within 1 year and typically reports to a Design Supervisor or Manager.
Meets with customers and/or sales in the showroom or BMC location.
Read and interpret blueprints.
Develop and complete design details from original concept drawings and prepare layouts using 20-20 Design Software.
Ensure conformance to all relevant building requirements and municipality building codes, if applicable.
Interpret design requirements as indicated by procedures, design manuals, and other applicable specifications.
Select and specify design materials to be used, in conjunction with outside sales direction and/or the client’s needs.
Generate and provide accurate pricing via established pricing records through 20-20 Design Software for estimating purposes.
Generate layouts for final approval and installation.
Review design(s) for most efficient and profitable use of inventory, equipment, and manpower as time permits.
Ensure designs are accurate, optimized, and conforms to standards.
Assist in maintaining Company's computer hardware and software to ensure current pricing and design criteria is up-to-date.
Develop and recommend implementation of new or adaptation of existing policies, practices, procedures, and techniques.
Aid in training of new associates when required.
Demonstrate a commitment to the quality improvement process and the philosophy of continuous improvement.

Minimum Education: Associate’s degree in related field preferred.
Read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Effectively present information to top management, fellow associates, and customers.
Write reports, memos, and correspondence.
Exceptional Excel Skills.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Enrollment in the NKBA AKBD training program for cabinet designers and certification within 1yr.
Advanced computer skills and mathematics normally needed. Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
Working knowledge of 20-20 Design Software.
Ability to create, invent, and use artistic skills to plan non-standard, non-routine designs.
At least 5 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of industry and production methods.
