Library Assistant I - Performs routine clerical duties to process incoming and outgoing library materials in the Circulation Department of the Missoula Public Library; Swan Valley Community Library branch.
THE LOCATION FOR THIS POSITION IS THE SWAN VALLEY COMMUNITY LIBRARY IN SEELEY LAKE MONTANA.

The following are intended to illustrate typical duties. They are not meant to be all inclusive or restrictive.
Processes library materials using the integrated library system (ILS). Retrieves library materials from book drop bins and crates, scans materials for check in. Reviews and maintains condition of arriving items. Shelves and holds materials for MPL patrons. Retrieves and prepares materials for shipping to partner libraries in Montana. Sorts and shelves returned materials. Ensures materials are in alphabetical and numerical order on the shelf and maintains shelf order by moving materials from one area of shelving to another, as necessary. Answers patrons’ information and directional questions. Assists the public with access to library materials, resources, and services. Checks out and renews materials. Places holds on materials reserved by patrons. Maintains supply of printed materials (brochures, newsletters, etc.) for public distribution. Explains and enforces library policy and rules to the public. Performs routine clerical work related to preparation and maintenance of print and non-print items. This may include process and package new materials for circulation; replace damaged packaging and labeling; polish and clean items; refer materials for discard or replacement; and monitor supplies and notify purchaser of inventory needs.
Requires high school diploma or GED. Requires six months of customer service experience which includes face to face public contact.
Normal work week is Sunday through Saturday; some evening hours will be required. Requires the ability to stand for long periods of time.
