Position Details

Department: Production

Direct Report: Shift Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Hours: 2nd (over night) Shift available. 10-13 hour shifts

Schedule: Available up to 5 days a week. Voluntary overtime at time and a half

Wage: $21.00/hr PLUS an additional $1.00/hr for working on 2nd shift

Position Overview

The Production Supervisor is responsible for the performance results for an assigned area in terms of productivity, quality, cost, delivery, safety, and engagement. Manage all aspects of area performance through collaboration with other Production Supervisors, Production Leads, Production Associates, Maintenance Associates, Sanitation Associates, Warehouse Associates, and Quality Associates for delivering, and where possible, exceeding, the key performance indicators within the operation. Strive to continuously improve using Lean tools to reduce costs, improve productivity, and improve quality while meeting defined goals and business objectives. The Production Supervisor is a member of the Production Leadership Team which supports the site in consistently meeting or exceeding safety, quality, environmental, regulatory, financial, and product supply goals.

Essential Functions

General:

  • Ensure that Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) are monitored, targets achieved, and reported appropriately:

  • Practice Learn-Do-Teach, lead by example, and ensure a safe and efficient workplace is provided at all times.

  • Liaise and coordinate with support functions to progress issues concerning production planning and resource/skill allocation to ensure delivery of products to schedule within all relevant quality specifications .

  • Full understanding of customer expectations and deliverables with an awareness of the impact of failure/cost of poor quality.

  • Maintains effective communications between Management and other peer Supervisors and escalates issues related to productivity, quality, cost, delivery, safety, and employee engagement appropriately.

  • Work positively with support functions to fully define the processes/procedures/controls relevant to team activities.

  • Leads and sustains root cause analysis (RCA) efforts, investigations, and Kaizen events for key chronic losses and nonconformance events.

  • Provide support and input to continuous improvement activities within the team.

  • Through utilization of lean manufacturing techniques, strive to exceed the company targets in productivity, efficiency, and quality on a continuous basis.

  • Champions the Clean/Inspect/Lubricate (CIL) Daily Management System in their area of responsibility.

  • Champions the shift Connection Point (CP) process and Daily Direction Setting (DDS) systems in their area of responsibility.

  • Leads Connection Point 1 (CP1) as part of DDS.

  • Supports progress on the 90-Day loss-elimination plans.

  • Supports the Maintenance Planning/Scheduling (MP&S) Daily Management System in their area of responsibility.

  • Supports the Breakdown Elimination (BDE) Daily Management System in their area of responsibility.

  • Supports the Anomaly Handling (AH) Daily Management System in their area of responsibility.

  • Supports the Centerline (CL) Daily Management System in their area of responsibility.

  • Supports the Changeover (CO) Daily Management System in their area of responsibility.

  • Manages production supply costs to meet or exceed budget requirements in their area of responsibility.

People:

  • In collaboration with Human Resources, participate in the hiring of resources necessary to maintain and improve department operations.

  • Possess the ability to lead and motivate - help people succeed by utilizing appropriate interpersonal styles, performance management, management by objectives (MBO), and cultivating a collaborative culture for high performing teams (HPT).

  • Undertake performance management responsibility for team members, conducting appraisals, and giving direction to extract discretionary effort.

  • Manage time and attendance within company procedures.

  • Responsible for execution of associate onboarding and sustainable training programs.

  • Through collaboration with the training and skills development (T&SD) function, identify, develop, and execute strategies to close skills gaps via utilization and maintenance of Skills Matrices and the Pay for Skill (PFS) program to continuously improve associate engagement, skill level, and workforce flexibility.

  • Train, supervise, mentor, and evaluate the performance of operations staff through robust development and business objectives.

  • Direct, coordinate, assign, monitor, and review the work of individuals engaged in operations related duties.

  • Maintain robust personal development plans for all associates in their area of responsibility.

  • Collaborate with staff, other departments, senior management, and decision makers to share information, problem solve, and clarify management objectives.

  • Drive a strong safety and continuous improvement culture through associate empowerment.

Qualifications

Education/Training:

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering). A combination of education, training, and experience that results in demonstrated competency to perform the work may be substituted.

Related Experience/Requirements:

  • Minimum: 3 years of supervisory experience within a Manufacturing Environment.

  • Preferred: Experience operating within a formalized Continuous Improvement Environment (TPM, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma). 3 years or more in a leadership capacity, experience in production, preferably in the dietary supplement or pharmaceutical industry.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience in leading change and situational leadership.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and sustaining high performing teams.

  • Experience writing, revising, and implementing SOPs.

  • Clear ability to relate to and motivate people and effectively train.

  • Willingness to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Proficient in MS Office applications.

Physical Requirements

Working Conditions in the Office Setting (10%):

  • Primary functions require sufficient physical ability to work in an office setting and operate office equipment.

  • Factory Attire.

Working Conditions on the Production Floor (90%):

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced light manufacturing environment.

  • PPE requirements: safety glasses, respiratory protection, company supplied lab coats, and gloves.

  • GMP gowning requirements: Hair net, beard guard (if applicable), shoe covers, and sweatbands as required.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent lifting / carrying (10-50 lbs.).

  • Frequent pushing / pulling *(50-300 lbs) and frequent bending and stooping.

  • Frequent handling / gripping (parts, tools, etc.).
