Overview
The City of Missoula is looking for a skilled and dependable Production Technician to join our Water Utility team. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the proper maintenance and operation of the City's water production and storage facilities, including pressure reducing valves (PRVs) and reservoirs. The Production Technician will perform routine inspections, operate and maintain SCADA systems, manage water quality data, and address public inquiries.

** The full range for the position is $28.44 - $33.13/hour and will increase each year for longevity and cost of living adjustments.
Essential Functions
Perform routine daily inspections and maintenance of all water production and storage facilities; identify any improper functioning equipment or operations.
Collect well water samples, and chlorine residual data.
Operate, maintain, and repair the SCADA system, meters, pumps, wells, boosters, generators, oil & grease motors, and other water supply equipment.
Perform telemetry, system transducer, chlorine, and Cla-Val maintenance.
Observe established safety and health protocols, including traffic control, confined space entry and power equipment operation.
Communicate with the public to address inquiries and complaints.
Maintain accurate records, logs, and databases.
Operate and maintain various hand tools, equipment, vehicles, computers, and other technology to perform operations and maintenance functions within the water supply facilities.
Utilize and maintain maps, blueprints, and sketches.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of water distribution principles and practices, including operations, maintenance and repair, installation, and utility construction methods and techniques.
Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply the Missoula Municipal Code, OSHA safety protocols, Montana and Federal laws relating to Public Works standards and regulations governing water systems, treatment, and quality.
Skill in communicating, in person and writing, with the proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals.
Skill in safely operating various tools, equipment, vehicles and other machinery in the installation and maintenance of water systems.
Skill in utilizing computers, various software and databases, and SCADS systems, with the ability to learn job-specific applications and equipment.
Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, and sketches.
Ability to resolve conflicts with facilitating outcomes while maintaining a calm demeanor.
Ability to learn departmental and City of Missoula practices and procedures.
Working Conditions:
Position requires the ability to lift 50 lbs. or less.
Work environment may include exposure to occupational hazards, chemicals, biohazards, construction hazards, and physical risks, including uneven terrain, adverse weather, aggressive animals, and working in confined spaces or open trenches, which require following basic safety precautions.
Qualifications and Additional Application Materials
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to four (4) years’ experience with water system operations, construction, or another relevant field.
Must have State of Montana 1A and 3B Water Operator certifications; transferrable out-of-state equivalents will be considered.
Must have a valid Montana driver’s license with a verified acceptable driving record, or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire.
