WE ARE LOOKING FOR
onX Offroad is hiring for aStewardship Managerto lead the charge in raising awareness about stewardship best practices to the off-road community. This individual-s goal will be to inspire a passion for preservation amongst our customers, and to build programs and resources to help them off-road ethically, following legal routes outlined by landowners and management groups, and always adhering to Tread Lightly and Leave No Trace principles. It is our belief that by resourcing an intentional community of off-roaders with the knowledge and tools to stay on track even when they are off-grid, we can help to reduce impact, limit closures, preserve habitats, and protect the places we love for future generations.
This position is responsible for managing the stewardship advocacy efforts of the Offroad team. Duties involve proposing, planning, and managing the execution of projects that promote the stewardship of our lands and education of our community on the topic of ethical offroading.
The Stewardship Manager will work with staff members of the Trail Guide, Marketing, Strategic Business Development, Access Advocacy, and Geospatial and Product teams to tell the stewardship story from a data-driven perspective, provide the public and policy-makers with information about the challenges of off-road recreation access, collaborate with government agencies, partner brands, and non-profit organizations working on access issues, encourage grass-root participation in stewardship activities, and propose and champion new product functionality to crowd-source access and stewardship-needs information.
onX has offices in Missoula and Bozeman, Montana, with a growing number of remote team members across the US. This position is eligible for full-time remote work (with travel), with a preference to hire in Montana, Oregon, Colorado, Washington, Utah, or Arizona. All other states will be considered on a case-by-case basis, with the exclusion of California and New York.
(Essential Job Duties)
Education and Awareness
Work with internal and external resources to produce and promote educational efforts such as videos, articles, and guides focused on ethical off-roading.
Find new ways to showcase onX data, and promote stewardship from within the off-roading community
Keep current on proposed changes to off-roading access, including changes to travel management plans, and encourage the Offroad audience to participate in the public planning process
Lead or coordinate classes/training for Trail Guides and App users on ethical off-roading
Help monitor company media to ensure a responsible brand message
Write articles and blogs
External and Internal Collaboration
Research companies and organizations in the off-roading community for desired partnerships
Establish new partnerships, in coordination with Business Development, to produce and promote educational efforts such as videos, articles, and guides focused on ethical off-roading
Plan timelines for deliverables and coordinate all internal project resources
Coordination, communication, and scheduling with partner organizations and agencies to achieve specific goals
Write scopes-of-work for external project deliverables
Lead integration of projects with other departments, as needed
Propose, plan, coordinate, and oversee the development of stewardship and land-access related Offroad features
Track and internally report on the progress of multiple, simultaneous deliverables
Conduct research into historical land-use policies and off-road policies.
Demonstrate high standards of accuracy and attention to detail
Craft the story-telling angle of advocacy and education initiatives to be meaningful to a wide audience
Review and fact-check final deliverables of GIS Analysts, Writers, and Designers to ensure information released to the public is factual, digestible, and exciting for a lay audience while also being consistent with company policies and being sensitive to our customer base and external partners- objectives
Presents and attends meetings, conferences, workshops as needed
Actively seek out a diversity of perspectives
Write and edit public-facing content (in-app, on the website, and for distribution to the public and media)
Keep onX staff informed of stewardship project developments
Minimum Education:Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource fields, Recreation Management, Marketing, Political Science, Geography, Non-Profit specializations, or similar. Other degrees will be considered when paired with experience in applicable fields, or relevant certifications.
Minimum Experience: Five (5) or more years of experience in managing marketing or brand awareness projects, scoping work timelines, and determining program priorities. Two (2) or more years collaborating with external project partners and stakeholders.
Experience scaling programs from concept to implementation.
Extensive knowledge of outdoor ethics and policies
Passion for, and knowledge of, the off-road industry
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of public land management and stewardship challenges
Able to balance multiple priorities and develop solutions as challenges arise
Trainer certifications in Tread Lightly and Leave No Trace principles (or similar training) strongly preferred
Professional experience working within the off-road industry strongly preferred
Experience with outdoor recreation-specific mobile map products
Knowledge of land use planning processes and public agency mandates
Knowledge of U.S. environmental and land ownership history
Advanced knowledge of onX products and services
Experience collaborating with government agencies and non-governmental organizations
