Overview

Join our team as a Water Dispatcher, where you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of our water services. You'll be a point of contact for service calls, efficiently dispatching crews to address issues and coordinating efforts with service and distribution teams. If you're a strong communicator with a knack for problem-solving, this is your chance to make a real impact in our community's essential services.

** The full range for the Water Dispatch - Career Ladder Level 1 position is $21.55 - $25.10/hour and will increase each year for longevity and cost of living adjustments.

Essential Functions

This position is part of a formal career ladder tying pay progression to the advancement and complexity of assigned duties and responsibilities.

  • Provide support to public inquiries regarding water operations, including fire flow and transmission main information.

  • Generate service orders from incoming calls and requests; coordinate service orders with customer service team.

  • Dispatch calls to field personnel, as directed.

  • Perform data entry from various sources into databases, and other tracking spreadsheets/software.

  • Maintain services orders, locate notifications, well log information, ditch card database, files, and other daily paperwork.

  • Utilize information from maps, fields notes, drawings, and SCADA systems.

  • Coordinate daily appointment schedules for the service and distribution teams; maintain schedules for tapping transmission mains.

  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of general office principles, procedures, and practices, including data entry, record management, generating reports, coordinating schedules, etc.

  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply local, state, and federal laws, including OSHA standards and guidelines, Missoula Municipal Code and Montana Code Annotated.

  • Skill in operating office equipment, using various computer software and databases, including Microsoft 365, and the ability to learn job-specific applications and equipment.

  • Skill in communicating, in person and writing, with the proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with diverse individuals.

  • Skill in multitasking in a fast-paced environment, while providing effective customer service.

  • Ability to read and interpret maps, field notes, and sketches.

  • Ability to problem-solve and resolve conflicts with facilitating outcomes while maintaining a calm demeanor.

  • Ability to learn and implement City and departmental policies, procedures, and practices.

Qualifications and Additional Application Materials

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to two (2) years’ experience with customer service, data entry, administrative support, or another relevant field.

  • Experience with Utilities, preferred.
