LOWELL AND KATHERINE HODGE General Farm & Ranch in MOCCASIN, Montana
Temporary full-time position from 1/1/2024 to 10/31/2024. This position will require worker to perform a variety of duties related to the production of grain/hay and cattle. Duties related to the production of livestock will include the following: check physical characteristics, observe general condition of livestock and apply the appropriate care; examine animals to detect illness/injury/disease, rate of weight gain to determine delivery time, assist in delivery and calving, apply or administer medications/vaccines, mix feed/additives and feed/water livestock when livestock are NOT out on range; Weekly, worker will place salt and mineral blocks; drive equipment to haul/distribute feed/water; herd livestock; Be on guard to protect livestock from wildlife (elk and bear.). Assist with artificial insemination work, heat detection, giving shots to synch up cows. Precondition calves, preg test cows. Trail and haul cows to the summer range. Clean/disinfect livestock corrals/stalls/sheds, ship calves. Worker must have knowledge and experience working with cattle in a gentle manner. Worker will assist with maintaining fences/corrals and water lines as needed, which may include cutting trees and digging ditching for drainage. General farm work will include making minor mechanical adjustments/repairs on farm machinery throughout the season. Repair/replace fencing and farm structures; perform general cleanup of farm acreage; drive, load/unload trucks. Worker will assist in planting and harvesting spring and winter wheat, barley, and alfalfa. Must be able to drive truck with pup to the grain elevator in town. Will be required to have/obtain a drivers? license. Worker will need a working knowledge of the following equipment: swather, baler, skid steer, 4-wheeler, manure spreader and tractor. Clean and store equipment at the end of the season. Clean out shelterbelts. Cut and haul dead, broken or diseased branches and trees. Most duties are performed out of doors, and entail exposure to heat, cold, dust, rain and other environmental conditions common in fields. Worker must crouch, bend, lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds. Employer provided items (at no cost to the worker): All tools and equipment necessary to perform the duties assigned as well as transportation between worker(s) on-site housing and the work site. A cell phone or two-way radio will be provided for emergency and ranch communications at no cost to the worker (excluding long distance charges).
