Overview

Tanaq Environmental, LLC. (Tanaq) delivers environmental engineering, investigation, consulting, and remediation services to local, state, and federal agencies in the areas of hazardous & toxic waste restoration, environmental compliance, emerging contaminants, and military munitions site management. Tanaq is a subsidiary of the St. George Tanaq Corporation, an Alaskan Native Corporation (ANC) committed to serving Federal customers while also giving back to the Alaskan native community and shareholders.

Position Summary

Tanaq is seeking a Site Supervisor – Environmental Restoration plays a crucial role in overseeing and coordinating on-the-ground activities to ensure the successful completion of restoration projects. This role will support TEL project teams in the planning, execution, and reporting of field activities for environmental restoration, investigations, and remediation of soils, groundwater, surface water, and sediments at PFAS, petroleum- and hazardous-waste sites for the United States Government and commercial clients with oversight from the Project Manager. This job requires the ability to monitor subcontractors to ensure the performance of work in accordance with environmental laws, policies, and contractual requirements, and the oversight of in-house field crews. This job may require writing technical documents, in a collaborative team environment, including decision documents, and reports as required by the contract.

This a hybrid remote work role that requires an estimated travel of 75% or more annually in the United States depending on project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations, scheduling tasks, and coordinating with subcontractors and other stakeholders to ensure the project stays on track and within budget.

  • Oversee and manage environmental field operations, including work conducted by drilling, surveying, and site remediation subcontractors.

  • Serve as the on-site leader, responsible for the safe and efficient execution of project tasks.

  • Support or lead field teams performing groundwater, surface water, soil, and sediment sampling.

  • Oversee staff conducting work that supports environmental restoration projects, including well drilling and installation, environmental investigations, and remediation efforts for various projects.

  • Enforce safety protocols and procedures to protect workers and the environment from hazards associated with field activities, site investigations, and remediation activities.

  • Identify and resolve on-site challenges or issues that arise during field operations.

  • Support pre-field efforts, including developing subcontract scopes of work/specifications, reviewing subcontractor proposals, procuring field equipment and PPE, planning and preparation calls, and scheduling field activities.

  • Support cost estimating for field operations.

Requirements

Required Experience and Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of field experience working on environmental restoration projects and on-site leadership of field work.

  • Minimum 3 years of overseeing and implementing safety programs for field work.

  • Prior experience working on federal government projects preferred.

  • Experience with Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste (HTRW), per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination, and other emerging contaminants, and environmental compliance preferred.

  • Candidate must have experience overseeing and/or conducting environmental restoration field activities that include drilling, excavating, soil mixing, and/or injections of amendments suitable for chemical oxidation, bioaugmentation, and reductive dichlorination.

  • Experience with operations of heavy equipment is preferred.

  • Strong understanding of field safety and quality control procedures required.

  • Experience conducting geologic and environmental investigations preferred.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.

  • Organizational skills and ability to plan and manage competing tasks.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team to execute multiple assignments, providing a consistently high level of quality and accuracy.

  • Professional demeanor with a positive, solution-seeking attitude and personal responsibility.

  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

  • Must be able to obtain clearance to access military bases and other federal government installations to perform job duties.

Education and Training

  • Minimum high school diploma; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training with the current annual 8-hour update is preferred; training may be provided for otherwise qualified applicants.

  • OSHA 30 Hour Construction certification is preferred; training may be provided for otherwise qualified applicants.

  • USACE 3-Phase Construction Quality Management (CQM) Training; training may be provided for otherwise qualified applicants.

  • Other demonstrated safety, quality, or technical training will be considered favorably.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able and willing to travel to job sites, attend client meetings, and/or attend professional or technical conferences, and the ability to travel, typically 75% or more annually, in the United States.

  • Physically able, with or without accommodation, to work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain and variable outdoor conditions, including heat, cold, dust, noise, chemicals, moisture, dryness, and vibration.

  • Position requires the ability to perform physical activities associated with field work, including walking long distances, climbing ladders, and carrying equipment. Bending, kneeling, stooping, and reaching are essential job functions.

  • Position requires frequent (more than 50% of workday) performance of repetitive bending & stooping, standing/walking, power gripping/squeezing (hand tools, levers, etc.), operation of vehicles, and lifting less than 25-50 pounds. Often (25-50% of the workday) requires work with arms above shoulder level and keyboard/mouse operations. Occasionally (10-25% of the workday), performing repetitive fine hand movements and lifting 50-75 pounds. Rarely (less than 10% of workday) involves climbing stairs, using portable ladders, working in an environment of heavy, moving, dangerous equipment, and working in confined spaces.

  • Position will require wearing personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to safety glasses/goggles, gloves, safety shoes/boots, hard hats/safety helmets, hearing protection, and respirator.

  • Good near and far vision (corrected to 20/40) is necessary to accurately measure instruments, record data in field logs, and identify potential hazards in the field.

  • Must be able to work in a hybrid remote work arrangement with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk while working on a computer.
