GENERAL PURPOSE

The purpose of this job is to assist the Respiratory Therapists in performing ECG's and treadmills under the supervision of a physician.  They will also assist in the delivery and maintenance of home oxygen equipment under the supervision of a Respiratory Therapist.  They will be required to work with other departments in scheduling procedures for the Respiratory Therapists.  They will take telephone messages, perform basic filing and upkeep of home oxygen charts, escort patients to and from the respiratory department, perform follow-up telephone calls to patients when applicable, and other duties as assigned.

They will be responsible for performing monthly home visits and telephone communications to the home oxygen clientele.  They will be required to keep the home oxygen files updated.  Computer data entry will be required using Microsoft Excel and/or other database programs.  They will perform monthly billing and database editing for the home oxygen department.  They will be responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the oxygen equipment.  They will report directly to the respiratory therapy manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Attaches electrodes to chest, arms and legs of patients.

Connects electrode leads to electrocardiograph and starts machine.

Keys information into machine or marks tracing to indicate positions of chest electrodes.

Replenishes supply of paper in machine and reports malfunctions.

Edits and forwards final test results to attending physician for analysis and interpretation.

Transfers ECGs into Cardioserve for physician interpretation.

Performs blood pressures and monitors pulse rate during an exercise stress testing under the supervision of a physician.

Installs, maintains, and cleans home oxygen equipment.

Provides supplies and reminder calls for CPAP patients.

Provides education and training to patients and caregivers regarding the use and maintenance of oxygen equipment.

Maintains patient's chart that contains pertinent identification and therapy information.

Inspects and tests home oxygen equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently.

Orders repairs when needed.

Schedules procedures for the Respiratory Therapists by coordinating with other departments and physicians.

Takes telephone messages daily.

Performs basic filing daily.

Escorts patients to and from the respiratory department daily.

Performs follow-up telephone calls to patients.

Performs monthly home visits and telephone communications to the home oxygen clientele.

Performs monthly billing.

Performs daily computer data entry and editing using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft word programs.

Other duties as assigned.
