The Associate Respiratory Therapist is expected to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of contemporary Respiratory Therapy principles. The Associate Respiratory Therapist should be a solid performer who is fully competent in all aspects of his/her job description. He/she is expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures. He/She will collaborate with Physicians and Nurses in planning and implementing the patient plan of care. Completion of the department orientation program as well as unit-specific orientation, as required, is mandatory. This individual assists the Physician with the delivery and direction of Respiratory Therapy. She/He may be qualified by training and experience to operate and maintain complex ventilatory support systems, monitoring and resuscitation devices, respiratory care procedures and patient assessments, diagnostic procedures and oxygen therapy. Activities may also include other patient care functions for which he or she is qualified.

For Certified Respiratory Therapists (CRT): If less than 5 years of experience, it will be required to obtain a RRT certification within 6 months of hire.

For PL460: The Associate Respiratory Therapist is expected to assist the FMC and ICU therapist.

Required qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree AMA accredited school of Respiratory Therapy OR Bachelors Degree

  • Montana Respiratory Care Practitioner License (Vendor Managed)

  • National Provider BLS - American Heart Association (Vendor Managed)

  • CRT with less than 5 years experience, must obtain RRT within 6 months of hire; Or

  • 5 years of CRT and no RRT requirement

Providence St. Joseph Medical Center is a 22-bed critical access hospital in beautiful northwest Montana employing nearly 250 employees, including physicians. With expanding services, building renovations and outstanding technology, our community hospital is the heart of medical care in Polson, Montana and the large, sparsely populated surrounding area. We have close ties to Providence St. Patrick Hospital and Health Sciences Center, Providence's tertiary center located 66 miles away in Missoula.
