Physical and Environmental Demands:The work of a Child Protection Specialist Supervisor is extremely challenging and requires the ability to model and teach employees how to successfully engage and work with parents and families who may be angry and/or violent. The position also demands the ability to guide critical decision-making processes in cases to lead to positive safety, permanency, and well-being outcomes for children and families. Field work is required on a frequent basis as needed to assist employees. Key Responsibilities Include: • Supervises and trains staff that provide family-centered services to assure safety, permanency, and well-being for families and children who are at risk of or have been subjected to child maltreatment. • Hires, guides, perform performance appraisals, and disciplines Child Protection Specialist Staff. • Establishes and assigns the workload of employees by reviewing caseload, ensuring equity of caseload, providing guidance in time management, coaching, and organizational skills. • Mediate, intervene, and resolve conflict between Child Protection Specialists and families or providers. • Provides assistance to the Child Protection Specialist when a team method is necessary to achieve positive outcomes for families and children by attending Family-Group Decision Making meetings, Permanency Team Staffing’s, Multi-Disciplinary Teams, and others. • May act as regional administrator upon request For a full job description, please email Required for the first day of work: • Knowledge of child development. • Knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations relating to protective services (child safety, permanency, and well-being). • Ability to engage children and families to gather sufficient information to make accurate and precise decisions. • Ability to identify problems, researching to develop and implement solutions. • Knowledge of personnel management and supervision. • Ability to communicate information both orally and in writing so others will understand. • Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, even those who do not share the same point of view and may be violent or angry, and maintain them over time. • Ability to operate a personal computer and general office equipment as necessary to complete the essential functions, including using spreadsheet, word processing, database, email, internet and other computer programs. Preferred: • Knowledge of child maltreatment prevention and treatment and family centered social work practice. • Knowledge of the methods and procedures for Child Protection Specialists. • Knowledge of the laws and rules pertaining to child protection services such as child safety, permanency and well-being; Indian Child Welfare Act. Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience): • Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, psychology, or directly related degree. • Four years of child protection work experience or other directly related work experience working with children and families in difficult and sometimes volatile situations. • Supervisory work experience preferred. • Other combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis; however, a bachelor’s degree is required. • Experience working with tribal government entities and/or other organizations of native peoples is highly preferred.
