LAKE COUNTY Environmental Health Specialist in POLSON, Montana

The Lake County Environmental Health Department is accepting applications for an Environmental Health Specialist. QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a Bachelors degree in Environmental Health or the equivalent, as determined by the MT Board of Sanitarians, or current registration as an Environmental Health Specialist with the National Environmental Health Association, plus any additional requirement of the Board of Sanitarians. Must possess a valid drivers license, and be a licensed Montana Registered Sanitarian or obtain license within six (6) months of hire. Must be proficient with computers and must be knowledgeable in and able to apply the fundamentals, laws, rules, and principles related to public and environmental health; and knowledgeable in microbiology, soil classification, basic chemistry, and principles of hydrology. Must possess the ability to follow instructions, exercise judgment, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with local government officials, department staff, the general public, and those contacted in the course of work; must have excellent oral and written communication skills and general office skills; Must prepare correspondence, records, and reports with attention to detail and accuracy; Effectively deal with situations that may be confrontational or controversial. DUTIES: Perform public health inspections and site evaluations of licensed establishments including food establishments, public accommodations, and trailer parks/campgrounds; advise and review designs for on-site wastewater treatment systems; review subdivision applications for compliance; enforce provisions of laws; investigate and document communicable disease outbreaks, violations, and general sanitation complaints; provide information and educational support; advises, investigates, documents, and resolves complaints and violations regarding all of the above programs; and performs other duties as assigned/required. HOURS/DAYS: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m./M-F; may work some non-office hours. WAGE: $22.00 ? 24.00 hourly, depending on experience. BENEFITS: Lake County offers excellent benefits!
