Indian Health Service Nutritionist in Poplar, Montana

Summary This position plans and implements the Nutrition and Dietetic Services for the Division of Medical Services, Community Health of the Fort Peck Service Unit located in Poplar, MT. The incumbent reports to the Supervisory Nurse Specialist or designee. This position is being readvertised to extend the closing date to "Open Until Filled" and solicit additional applications. Responsibilities Counsel patients and families in nutrition principles, medical nutritional therapy (MNT) plans, food selection and economics, adapting plans to the individual's lifestyle and resources. Provide comprehensive diabetes education for patients, staff and community. Help develop, administer and evaluate nutrition programs for outpatients with normal therapeutic diet needs. Participate in planning, development, implementation and evaluation of nutrition education. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Individual Occupational Requirements: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements for all grade levels:-Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (external link) (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (external link) (formerly American Dietetic Association (external link) (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation. -Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists. -Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Note: Applicants who have completed a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists; or applicants who possess professional registration as a Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietician Nutritionist meet the requirement for GS-7. Experience and education requirements for GS-7 and above: In addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements, applicants must have specialized experience and/or directly related education in the amounts shown in the table below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-9: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree or 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-7 GS-11: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-9 Specialized Experience Examples: GS-9 include: Evaluate nutritional assessments; review and interpret treatment data; develop nutritional care plan; provide nutritional education to individuals, families, and community groups. GS-11 include: Develop nutritional care plans; provide consulting services to patients; assess nutritional needs related to several types of diabetes; interview techniques and patient care management. Selective Placement Factor: Applicants must possess and maintain current registration with The Commission on Dietetic Registration. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. At least a 6 month service agreement will be required. This position has promotion potential to the GS-11 grade level.
