MAJOR DUTIES Plan, develop, implement, direct and evaluate the overall Child Protection services program at . the Fort Peck Agency. Ensure attainment of the objectives of the program to meet the needs of Indian people on or near the reservation, Develop and maintain professional standards of service . Work cooperatively with the Agency Supervisory Social Worker to ensure effective and coordinated execution of the total agency social service responsibility. Initiates and implements changes in methods to promote improved efficiency and coordination of social services practices with other service programs serving the same client groups, whether BIA,
Tribal, state or private . Assures maintenance of all case files and other records in strict compliance with policy, regulation and procedure. supervises preparation of reports and records. Assures strict adherence at all times to the requirements of the Privacy and Freedom of Information Acts
in the operation of the program. Participates in the development of community organizations and
other initiatives to meet social needs . Provides service, consultations and assistance to the Superintendent, Tribal Court, Tribal Council, program officials at the Bureau, Tribes, State and community to facilitate the development of programs on the reservation for identified problems, to resolve matters pertaining to clients and to protect the welfare of Indian people in our service area. Conducts correspondence, including letters and telephone calls, with social agencies and their staffs regarding resources of enrolled tribal members, medical social problems, school social problems and probation and parole inquiries. Provides child welfare services, including protective services in their homes, to abused, neglected, dependent, pre-delinquent children. Arranges for foster home and institutional placement as part of a treatment plan . Determines eligibility and arranges for assistance in accordance with manual
regulations and objectives, Assembles and manages on a priority basis on ongoing limited intensive
treatment caseload of multi-problem families and individuals to whom these services are offered on a regular basis. Prepares case records, summaries, special and routine reports and other recording in maintaining professional standards of accountability. Coordinates child protection services with the Tribal court when legal resource is involved. Cooperates with public health agencies in planning and implementing medical care
and treatment of abused children. Plans with families and children who may need boarding school services, cooperates with boarding school personnel in rendering casework services when
indicated to families and students using boarding school facilities and services. Provides in-depth psychological, economic and social casework services to pregnant unwed women and minor females and the alleged fathers which include exploring available alternatives open to them in planning for themselves and their expected child, including advising of legal rights to support payment, relinquishments and other special problems. Provides technical assistance to tribal contractors on child protection teams and represents the Fort Peck Agency on the agency level child protection team. Works cooperatively with the Tribes and the Montana Department of Family Services in a joint effort directed at identifying, evaluating and licensing suitable foster homes. Works cooperatively with two Social Service Representatives. A valid driver's license is required.

Grade (09): Basic entry level qualification requirements, applicants must have the following: Education: 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. Specialized: (for positions above GS-5): One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower level in the normal line of progression is qualifying for positions above the GS-5 level. Specialized experience demonstrates the applicants' experience, knowledge, and skill in a Bureau's Social Service Program. Receipt of child neglect, sexual abuse and physical abuse complaints and conducted investigations through home visitation and personal interviews with child/parents. Provided counseling to unmarried parent(s) and also provide family welfare services. Establish a therapeutic relationship, accept hostility, and be non-judgmental in client activity. Grade (11): Education: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Specialized: (for positions above GS-5): One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower level in the normal line of progression is qualifying for positions above the GS-5 level. Specialized experience demonstrates the applicants' independent experience, knowledge, and skill in a Bureau's Social Service Program, assist with the development and improvement and services aimed at Child Welfare and Family Services. Receipt of child neglect, sexual abuse and physical abuse complaints and conducted investigations through home visitation and personal interviews with child/parents. Child Protection Team case manager of assigned cases, recruit foster parents, develop, evaluate, train and recommend approval based on Tribal/State standards. Provided counseling to unmarried parent(s) and also provide family welfare services. Establish a therapeutic relationship, accept hostility, and be non-judgmental in client activity. Basic Requirements Degree: social work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Master's degree with practicum: Applicants who complete all of the requirements for a master's degree in social work that included a practicum are eligible for GS-9. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date.
