CITY OF RONAN Police Chief in RONAN, Montana

Full time Police Chief. This is not a complete job description. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen; of legal age to perform the duties of this job under MT law; possess a MT driver's license; possess MT POST certification; or be able to obtain same within twelve (12) months of hire (if currently holding certification from another state); if the applicant is MT POST certified, employer retains the right to require the successful applicant to take the Montana Law Enforcement Physical Abilities test (MPAT); not have been convicted of a crime for which the person could have been imprisoned in a federal or state penitentiary; no felony and no domestic abuse convictions; be of good moral character, as determined by a thorough background investigation; be a high school graduate or have passed GED/HiSET; demonstrate the possession of communication skills, temperament, motivation, and other characteristics necessary to the accomplishment of the duties and functions of a peace officer, as determined through an oral examination; be able to legally possess firearms; possess the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities typically obtained through a combination of education and experience to act as a Police Officer; possess good verbal/written communication skills. (Reference MCA 7-32-303.) Must be able to handle several tasks simultaneously; be able to react quickly and effectively in stressful situations; work nights, weekends, holidays. Be willing to reside in City of Ronan. Ronan's Police Chief will be a highly engaged leader with flawless integrity who exhibits a sincere interest in the people he/she leads and the community he/she serves. Ronan's Police Chief must be a passionate mentor and coach capable of further developing the incredible talent in the organization that is ardently dedicated to a personable, proactive and highly responsive service delivery model. Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A typical way to meet the qualifications would be currently servicing at the rank of lieutenant/commander or above and/or possess broad operations and significant administrative experience at a level commensurate with division level oversight and management. The candidate should possess a Command Certificate from Montana POST or its equivalent. Education equivalent to an Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university. A Bachelor's Degree and/or completion of an executive leadership program is preferred. Current or previous experience serving in a small city and dealing extensively with quality-of-life issues will be considered favorably. An appreciation for the outdoors, and active lifestyle and seasonal weather (including a moderate level of snow!) is essential to be a good fit in Ronan.
