DANIELS COUNTY Dispatcher/Public Safety Telecomm. in SCOBEY, Montana

The Public Safety Telecommunicator / Dispatcher is responsible for carrying out accurate, efficient, and effective 911 dispatcher operations for the Sheriff's Office, five (5) fire departments, county Ambulance, county Rescue, and other emergency services. Answers phone calls, including emergency calls, via 911 and administrative phone lines in a timely manner. Gathers/elicits pertinent information from emergency (911) and non-emergency calls for service, and prioritizes calls to relay information to emergency services providers in a timely manner. Operates various forms of radio/communication devices using clear and concise speech. Greets the public in a friendly, helpful, and professional manner on emergency calls, radio network and in-person at the sheriff's office lobby. Maintains strict confidentiality of criminal justice information in all public safety communications activities and job duties. Maintains proper records for criminal history requests and dissemination; local arrests and citations; calls for service; and daily information/activity logs. Makes accurate and timely entries and updates of articles, vehicles, and persons into National Crime Information Center (NCIC). Maintains CJIN/NCIC training and other required certifications. Performs basic cleaning duties in dispatch and cooking areas; restrooms; vacuuming; emptying trash, etc. When necessary, appears in court to provide testimony. QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age [MCA 7-31-202]; possess a high school diploma or equivalent; no felony or serious misdemeanor convictions (criminal convictions of less serious misdemeanor crimes will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis); possess or able to obtain a valid Montana driver's license; ability to type/keyboard at 35 words per minute; ability and willingness to work any shift (day, evening, or night), weekends, and holidays; clear and concise English language abilities (reading, writing, and speaking); exemplary levels of honesty, integrity, and confidentiality. Prior public safety dispatch experience is highly desirable. REQUIREMENTS: Satisfactory completion of an extensive background investigation (including fingerprinting) and interview process. Must undergo a medical exam and drug testing (at Daniels County expense). Must have completed or be willing to complete two (2) weeks of mandatory training at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy (paid for by the employer, if not already completed). Satisfactory completion of all on-the-job training. Ability to maintain any required certifications and complete mandated training. All new employees will serve a one (1) year probationary period. one full time and one part time position
