RESEARCH ASSISTANT at MSU-EASTERN AG RESEARCH CENTER Montana State University Eastern Agricultural Research Center is looking for a fixed-term appointment Research Assistant to support cereal and pulse crop variety trials and other duties. This position is grant-funded for one year appointment that may be renewed pending on the job performance and funding availability. The job duties of this position include but not limited to packaging and organizing seeds, planting field plots (driving tractor or operating planter), applying fertilizer and controlling weeds, collecting soil and plant samples, processing soil and plant samples in the lab, recording and entering data into a computer. This person will also clean and maintain EARC ground and facilities and help other projects as needed. The required qualifications are: 1. Experience in Microsoft Word and Excel, 2. Experience in growing and managing field crops, 3. Experience in operating small farm equipment. Successful candidate must be able to work in Montana's climate and field environment, can tolerate dust, insects, fungus, stationary position for extended periods of time, excellent manual dexterity, and occasional moving of seeds and samples in bags weighing up to 50 pounds. The candidate must have great communication skills and ability to work as part of a team, exercise initiative and independent judgment in day-to-day activities, have the ability to prioritize duties, and will possess time management skills. Occasional in and out of state overnight travels are required. Work schedule is Mon-Fri 7am-4pm. The wage is $15.00 per hour depending on the skills and experience. Benefits are included.
