Job Summary: The Truck Pusher plays a critical role in managing the movement of large trucks on work sites, including loading and unloading areas, ensuring trucks are properly positioned for maximum efficiency. This position requires a highly organized individual with a strong understanding of truck operations, safety protocols, and logistical coordination. The Truck Pusher will be responsible for guiding various types of truckssuch as tankers, flatbeds, and refrigerated trailerswhile also overseeing the schedules of truck drivers, maintaining safety compliance, and supporting the day-to-day activities of the team.
Key Responsibilities:
Truck Movement and Positioning:
- Guide and direct the movement of large trucks, ensuring they are positioned correctly for loading and unloading in a variety of environments.
- Use hand signals, radios, or other communication methods to instruct drivers in safely maneuvering trucks within work areas.
- Ensure proper positioning of trucks in accordance with safety standards and operational needs.
Scheduling and Coordination:
- Manage truck driver schedules to ensure timely arrivals and departures from job sites, helping to coordinate routes and times for optimal workflow.
- Monitor the completion of tasks such as loading and unloading, ensuring that each task is done efficiently and according to safety protocols.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and standards in the field, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety procedures for truck operations.
- Monitor the worksite for potential hazards and take immediate corrective actions to prevent accidents or incidents.
- Maintain and inspect safety equipment regularly, ensuring all trucks are up to code and ready for operation.
Team Supervision and Communication:
- Supervise and provide guidance to other crew members, ensuring that all team members are following safety protocols and operational procedures.
- Foster effective communication among the team to ensure efficient operations and prompt resolution of any issues that arise on-site.
Equipment and Site Maintenance:
- Oversee the maintenance and readiness of trucks and related equipment, ensuring trucks are properly fueled, inspected, and ready for service.
- Assist with monitoring and operating other equipment such as water pumps or loading devices, depending on the site requirements.
Recordkeeping and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of truck movements, fuel consumption, driver schedules, and site activities.
- Report any equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or logistical challenges to the appropriate supervisors.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a similar role (truck pusher, yard coordinator, etc.) or relevant industry experience preferred.
- Knowledge of truck types and the ability to maneuver different vehicles safely (tankers, flatbeds, refrigerated trailers).
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to multitask and manage multiple drivers and schedules.
- Ability to enforce and maintain strict safety and compliance standards on work sites.
- Basic mechanical knowledge for monitoring equipment and troubleshooting minor issues.
- Strong problem-solving skills, ith the ability to adapt quickly to changing conditions.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and wet environments.
- Capable of standing, walking, and directing vehicles for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed for certain tasks on site.
Additional Skills (Preferred):
- Experience in oil and gas, construction, or other industrial sectors.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations for truck operations and safety.
- Ability to operate and understand truck-mounted pumps, rigging, and other related equipment.
