U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command MEDICAL TECHNICIAN in Silver Bow, Montana

Summary About the Position: You will serve as a Medical Technician in a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS), for the Butte, MT MEPS with duty location in Silver Bow, MT. This is a Temporary Position Not To Exceed 1 Year. Position may be filled as a temporary appointment NTE 1 year, if candidate is not a current permanent Army employee. Temporary appointments may be extended up to a maximum of three years. Responsibilities Maintains applicant's medical record during the examination process. Screens medical records from various health care providers concerning medical conditions, determines conditions that could be disqualifying for entrance or retention in the military, and then refers those records to the CMO. Assist applicants in the completion of various forms required for the physical examination process. Inputs and updates applicant data from medical records into computer databases. Performs customer service duties and administrative office duties such as filing of paperwork and annotating logs. Takes and records blood pressure and pulse rate. Performs phlebotomy procedures to obtain blood samples for HIV and other laboratory tests, using USMEPCOM-standard safety precautions. Administers audiometric (hearing) tests and conducts near/far visual acuity, color vision, and depth perception optical (vision) tests.. Determines how specimens must be processed, completes required forms, operates centrifuge to separate specimens, processes packages, and ships all specimens. Specialized experience is defined as: taking blood pressure, conducting vision and/or audiology screening, measuring and recording height and weight of patients, ear lavage and collecting and/or processing of urine specimens; performing phlebotomy procedures to obtain blood samples for HIV and/or other laboratory tests. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. Two year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
