NW Construction, Inc. Superintendent - Heavy Civil Construction - Onsite in TBD, Montana

SummaryAs a Superintendent you will function as a field supervisor overseeing civil project operations on construction projects and be responsible for the organization, work methods, scheduling, cost control, conformity with drawings and specifications, workmanship, and assignment of work to accomplish project goals, either directly or through general foreman/foreman. You will also work to maintain positive working relationships with clients, architects/engineers, suppliers, subcontractors, and jobsite staff. NW Construction is a Heavy Civil Construction Contractor based in Bozeman, Montana. NWC specializes in heavy civil construction, taking on projects both large and small. Our work encompasses many areas of the construction industry, including but not limited to: Dams, Hydroelectric, RCC, Concrete, Large and Small Diameter Piping, Sheet Piling, Site Work, Utilities, Slurry Walls, Demolition, Marine, Environmental Work, Drill and Shoot and Aggregate Processing. Project sites are generally located in Montana and the western United States.LocationAt NWC, we go where the work is, which exposes your career to exciting opportunities. We relocate our teams based on the work that is available. While our home office is located in Bozeman, MT, our project sites are generally located throughout the Western United States.Essential FunctionsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.•Schedule and manage construction activities, sequencing and the selection of engineering staff, crew workforce, equipment, and tools for maximum utilization and quality of work.•Collaborate with estimating teams to develop estimates and budgets for large complex heavy civil project(s).•Review, interpret and understand Contract Documents including specifications, drawings, and designs and ensures specifications and regulations outlined in architectural and engineering plans are followed.•Coordinates and schedules the work activities of tradespeople, professionals, and laborers, communicating to and via project foreperson to deliver instructions and project assignments as appropriate.•Manage construction safety, environmental and quality compliance.•Regularly inspects work for quality and timeliness; prepares and provides progress reports to owners; makes recommendations for necessary modifications.•Obtains required permits and licenses; executes construction contracts according to terms of agreement.•Understand/manage/track project schedule, costs and budget progress with project milestones and takes all action necessary to keep project on track; communicates variances as they occur.•Create, update, review, and maintain daily reports and logs for record keeping purposes. •Review timecards and invoices for proper cost distribution and accountability.•Addresses any safety violations or other deficiencies.•Experienced operator of heavy equipment with ability to train others Competencies•Good verbal and written communication skills. •Ability to work under pressure.•Ability to oversee and coordinate a variety of people in different roles.•Extremely detail-oriented.•Ability to read, understand, and execute blueprints, drawings, and plans.•Thorough understanding of legal requirements relating to construction and building sites.•Thorough understanding of quality building practices. •Ability to quickly identify problems and efficiently solve them. •Strong organizational and time management skills.•Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done.Supervisory Responsibilities•Interviews and hires site workers.•Approves timecards and requests for time off.•Prepares work schedules and assignments.•Communicates and enforces safety procedures and site rules.Work Environment•Active construction site, mining area, or other industrial setting where large scale projects are taking place.•Working around various heavy equipment operations. •Exposure to various weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, rain, or wind.Minimum Requirements•Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.•Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future.•Must have a valid, unrestricted Driver’s License.•Must be willing to travel and relocate. Project sites are located throughout the Western United States, so relocation and/or travel are required.•5+ years previous experience in the construction industry with experience working in a superintendent/leadership capacity supporting civil construction operations.•Experience in leadership, safety, negotiations, planning, and contract administration.•Previous estimating and planning experience.•Safety oriented, 30-hour OSHA certificate .•Excellent organizational, administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills.Preferred Qualifications•Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration (Accounting, Management or Finance), Construction Management or related field. •Current first aid/CPR certification a plusPhysical Requirements•Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments.•Ability to kneel, stoop, crouch, climb or crawl.•Ability to maintain balance.•Ability to safely and effectively perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.Other dutiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
