Position Overview

Madison County is seeking a motivated undergraduate or graduate student to join our team as a Planning Intern. Under general supervision, the Planning Intern will perform a variety of professional, technical, analytical and administrative support work to the Planning Department. The internship is designed to provide quality and applicable experience in the day-to-day functions of community development within a local government.

The Planning Department plays a central role in guiding the growth and development of land use within the entirety of the Madison County, which is the 13th largest county in Montana and includes 3,600 square miles. The Planning Intern can expect to learn and participate in all tasks associated with the Planning Department, including development reviews, revision and administration of long-range planning documents, floodplain permitting, high-level research projects, collaboration with authoritative agencies, administration of adopted policies and Montana statute, presentations before boards and commissions, and preparation of written communications.

The ideal Planning Intern should have strong written and oral communication skills, an interest in research and learning, in addition to being a motivated self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team.
