Job Overview: The Custodial Supervisor of the Housekeeping Department is responsible for all housekeeping and laundry duties to ensure patients and staff have a clean, safe, sanitary, and attractive environment atMontanaStateHospital. The Laundry Department is responsible for providing laundry service daily, Monday through Friday, to patients and staff ofMontanaStateHospital and other facilities. Housekeeping Supervision. 55% * Makes daily job assignments to all housekeeping and laundry personnel, ensuring all areas have appropriate coverage. * Responsible for the overall day to day functions of the housekeeping area including, but not limited to, coordinating job assignments, scheduling, hiring, discipline, performance evaluations, and time approval. * Approves and tracks all department time and work schedules. Schedules all vacations, holidays, and other leave. * Periodically assists with inspections of the facility to evaluate and verify proper work procedures are being performed up to required standards and addresses any deficiencies. * Monitors quality of work and enters data for Quality Assurance Reports. * Implements corrective action, completes annual performance plans and performance evaluations on all housekeeping and laundry personnel. * Screens, interviews, and hires in the housekeeping and laundry departments, 1. * Administrative Functions 45%* * Reviews, develops, and implements procedures and ensures housekeeping activities are in compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines. * Develops, revises, and supervises implementation of policies and procedures for housekeeping and laundry services. * Establishes and carries out a training program on proper use of chemicals and proper custodial techniques for the housekeeping staff. Coordinates activities of the housekeeping department with maintenance and support staff indicating areas where repairs and/or assistance are required. * Resolves technical work problems not covered by precedents or established policies. * Issues all necessary equipment and supplies to housekeeping staff ensuring that such equipment is maintained in good repair and that supplies are used in accordance with local policies and manufacturer's recommendations. * Maintains inventory of housekeeping supplies and equipment. Coordinates with the Maintenance Manager in ordering of new or replacement supplies. * Completes other duties as assigned. Physical and Environmental Demands:Physical demands may involve prolonged periods of standing; lifting supplies weighing up to 70 pounds; twisting; bending; and climbing up and down ladders for extensive periods of time while inspecting facility and reviewing work of subordinate personnel. May require long hours of work to keep facilities operating during all types of emergencies. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: (Required for first day of work) * Must be skilled in the operation of computers and small equipment normally found in a custodial setting. * Ability to plan, coordinate, and assign work to staff ensuring adequate coverage. * Ability to work cooperatively with others and protect patient’s rights and confidentiality. * Ability to be comfortable working around mentally ill and security risk patients. * Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize work. * Skill in mentoring, assigning and reviewing work, and providing guidance to others. * Communicate effectively orally and in writing. * Knowledge of commercial housekeeping procedures. Supervision The number of employees supervised is: 24 Minimum qualifications(Education and Experience): * High School Education * A combination of education and experience equivalent to five years of commercial custodial and laundry work preferred * Custodial work in a hospital setting preferred * Two years of supervising 10 or more employees preferred Candidates will be evaluated to determine if they meet the minimum qualifications listed above and on the extent to which the application materials show the candidate possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with this position.
