The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity as an Medical Coder at Montana State Hospital. TheMedical Coder reviews and analyzes health records to identify relevant diagnoses and procedures for health services provided to patients at the Montana State Hospital. Job Overview: */ /This position reviews and analyzes health records to identify relevant diagnoses and procedures for health services provided to patients at the Montana State Hospital. The purpose of this position is to apply the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to individual patient health information for data retrieval, analysis, and claims processing. This position reports to the Health Information Director and does not supervise. *Required for the firs day of work: * Knowledge of ICD-10-CN, CPT, DSM-5, and HCPCS coding and classification systems. * Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes. * Knowledge of HIPAA, state and federal regulations, health care standards, and hospital policy regarding Protected Health Information privacy and confidentiality practices. * Excellent customer service skills. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Accurate and precise attention to detail. * Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently. * Ability to locate data in and abstract information from medical records. * Ability to apply, adapt, and interpret guidelines from established rules, policies, and procedures. Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience): * High School Diploma or equivalent. * Medical Coding certificate or Associates Degree in Health Information Management or equivalent from an accredited college or technical school. o 1-year medical coding work experience can substitute for the education listed above. * AHIMA or AAPC certification such as Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Preferred.
