State of Montana Treatment Specialist in Warm Springs, Montana

Job Overview: This position provides patient treatment to include individual therapy, group therapy, and psycho/educational services on and off treatment units at the Montana State Hospital. Responsibilities include providing clinical evaluation and assessment services; recommending and implementing therapeutic interventions and treatment approaches based on evaluation and assessment findings which may include discharge planning/placement; and assisting with social assessments and treatment plan production and coordination as needed. Therapeutic Clinical Services 75% * Develops and implements evidenced-based therapeutic interventions and treatment approaches for clients with a broad spectrum of psychiatric diagnosis. * Provides therapy to include both individual and group therapy for patients as well as short term crisis counseling and supportive contact. * Maintains caseload of assigned clients and coordinates with treatment teams adjusting treatment plan as needed. * Provides substance use disorder or other evaluation and assessment per recognized standard of care of therapy impact for individual patients. * Actively participates with unit treatment teams to analyze patient evaluation, recommend specific groups or other specialized treatment interventions, and review patient behaviors. * Instructs staff in therapeutic treatment approaches and evidence-based techniques according to clients’ psychiatric needs. * Consults as needed or required with supervisors to obtain clarification or address concerns to ensure the provision of appropriate patient care, treatment, or job duties. * Complies with Department, Division, and Facility policies and procedures, as well as State licensure and Centers for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS) certification standards. 1. Treatment Team and Documentation Responsibilities 15% * Regularly attends staff meetings and keeps treatment teams updated on client’s progress with treatment interventions. Assists treatment team by giving recommendations for individualized treatment plans. * Administers specific substance use disorder testing, communicates findings of substance use disorder evaluations (using A.S.A.M. patient placement criteria) and conducts other clinical assessments that may be requested and works with the treatment team to engage client in continued care. * Participates in diagnostic and treatment clinics with other team members to determine client’s treatment intervention and gives recommendations on how to best address discharge challenges. * Maintains clearly written progress notes on all clinical contact with clients. * Maintains confidentiality related to patient information and medical records to ensure the rights of hospitalized individuals. 1. Miscellaneous Responsibilities and Duties 10% * Provides in-service training to other staff members as needed. * Consults with Program Manager and/or Nurse Manager on progress or problems of individual patients. * Performs all work tasks in a proper and safe manner following established policies, general safety rules, and safe operating procedures. * Other duties as assigned. Physical and Environmental Demands: Clinical, Medical, and Nursing Services positions primarily work on treatment units and in a clinic setting. These positions are involved in the treatment of persons who sometimes pose unpredictable and physically aggressive behavior requiring staff intervention and possible risk of injury to staff. Employees in these positions may be expected to assist with patient crisis interventions. These positions are also involved in the evaluation and treatment of persons with histories of serious criminal acts. Training in hospital approved intervention techniques and Mental Health Professional Person Certification are required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: (Required for first day of work) * Working knowledge of clinical treatment techniques for adult psychiatric clients including subgroups of patients with psychotic disorders; mood disorders; personality disorders; substance use disorders; patients involved in the criminal justice system; geriatric patients; and other mental health disorders. * Understanding of individual and team approaches to treatment and therapy for emotionally disturbed and/or handicapped adults. * Knowledge and application of professional and ethical standards of practice. * Effective interviewing and information gathering techniques. * Ability to effectively utilize knowledge and skills and apply them to practical assessment and treatment modalities for patients. * Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. * Ability to analyze, assemble, and organize information. * Ability to cooperate with and demonstrate respect for other employees contributing to a positive and efficient working environment. * Ability to operate a personal computer and general office equipment including using spreadsheets, word processing, database, email, internet, and other computer programs. Minimum qualifications(Education and Experience): * Bachelor’s Degree in a clinical treatment discipline that may include nursing, psychology, social work, rehabilitation therapy, or similar background involving the treatment of adult psychiatric patients. A Master’s degree is preferred. * Two years of experience providing therapeutic mental health care to seriously mentally ill individuals. * Licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Professional Counselor (LCPC), Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Addictions Counselors (LAC) is required. Applicants with provisional licenses will also be considered. * Other combinations of related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
