Approximate employment dates will be April24, 2021 through mid-September 2021. Weekend and holiday work will be required. Identity of applicants who become finalists may be released to the public if the Department deems it necessary. Employees who exceed 1,040 hours in a calendar year are also provided health, dental and life insurance. Other benefits include retirement, paid vacation, sick and holidays. Job Duties: The employee will perform a wide variety of skilled, semi-skilled or manual work repairing, cleaning, constructing, installing, and maintaining buildings, grounds, and public recreational facilities at Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park. The employee will use safety and caution while working in a sensitive natural environment. The employee will be expected to work independently on frequent occasions, and work with other Parks staff as assigned. Must have team and communications skills and may work as a field crew leader of other staff members. The employee will come into contact with the recreating public and will be expected to answer basic questions and provide advice regarding access to public waters and lands and recreational facilities and opportunities throughout FWP. Physical and Environmental Demands: * Frequently works in adverse outdoor conditions including temperature extremes, snow and rain, dust and mosquito infested areas. * May works in confined areas, sometimes for extended periods, including attics, cellars and excavated areas. * Works on or near wastewater and sewage disposal systems with potential for contact with disease, virus and bacteria. * Works in areas frequented by rodents with the potential for contact with disease such as Hantavirus. * Works with and applies hazardous chemicals, including various pesticides, solvents, paints and fuels. * Exposed to welding fumes. * Works with public and may inform public of site rules and regulations. * Works on overhead heights, including roofs and scaffolding. * Required to work weekend and holiday hours, including occasional overtime. * Must be willing to spend occasional time away overnight or away from permanent workstation. * Physical demands include frequent exertion, often for extended periods, including lifting, carrying, digging and pounding. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Requires ability to perform methods and practices of general maintenance work related to equipment, buildings, grounds, public recreational facilities, natural areas, camping areas. Ability to use and care for hand and power tools and operation of a variety of lawn care motorized equipment. Frequently works independently without a direct supervisor being present; able to take initiative; ability to achieve and maintain a high level of quality work performance as interpreted by the supervisor; recognize and accept authority. Must obtain and maintain weed control training at an appropriate level in coordination with Maintenance Supervisor. In certain situations, skills must be applied to situations where other factors may require a degree of sensitivity and restraint such as in riparian areas or historic and cultural sites. Must be able to communicate effectively with the public, providing accurate information about State Park facilities, regulations, fees, and recreational opportunities. Requires good communication skills with people, ability to cooperate and get along with co-workers, treat public with respect. Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience): The knowledge, skills, and abilities of this position are normally attained through combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or equivalency and 1 year of job-related experience. Other combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
